Our recent blog post 2 introducing the upcoming Ubuntu Core Desktop explains what Ubuntu Core Desktop is and outlined many of the features and, more importantly, our modular approach using the capabilities of snap. This will be the first post in a series detailing the architecture of Ubuntu Core Desktop, explaining the...
This is a bug I just experienced on one of my manjaro computers. I was puzzled as fuck because cpu/io usage wasn’t high but it was pretty slow....
Yesterday I tried to layout a bunch of program windows via xdotools moveto and resize. In theory they should have been all the same size, but they came out all different, and none had the targeted size. They all had space around them. What is involved in this process? Are there invisible borders, or stuff like that?
I use zsh and have export MANPAGER=“nvim -Rc ‘set ft=man’ -” in my .zshrc. this used to work well but since a couple of weeks ago, whenever I run man (e.g. man man) I get many weird escape characters (e.g. [4mMAN[24m(1)). when running man and manually piping the output to another program (e.g. man man | nvim -Rc ‘set...
I am using a somewhat minimal installation of Arch-Linux on Nvidia-Hyprland. I am using the base install of Discord and I have PipeWire installed with Easy Effects running, along with some EQ settings for my BeyerDynamics DT 770 80ohm headphones. Every time I join a call in Discord, all the sounds are crackling until I leave. I...
Hi all, Just wanted to know, do these all work the same? I have ext4, so no snapshots on timeshift, but I’m using it now to back up to an external SD card. I have heard good things about Pika and dejadup, and had some mishaps with timeshift. So, my question is, do they all do the same thing? Like, if I messed up something, can...
I am currently running EndeavourOS on my laptop, and I have all of the “printer” packages from installation installed. My company uses a Papercut NG server to manage printing, and I have an account in the system. However, there are no clear guides for installing the Papercut client on Linux, or printing to a managed printer...

I’m mostly interested in disabling the command to create a root shell ‘machinectl shell @root’. Attempting to ‘systemctl disable systemd-machined’ doesn’t work....

Between wanting to do more with local LLMs, wsl annoyances, and the direction tech companies have been going lately, I think it’s time I start exploring a full Linux migration...
Hi guys!...
So I’ve been using Linux now for a while, and am looking to migrate my dev environment to vim and spend more time in the command line. I’m fairly comfortable with bash but by no means an expert. I’ve used zsh with some minor customization but just recently learned about fish. I’d love to hear people’s opinions.
I use arch, with keyboard layout “es”, because I’m Spanish. My keyboard doesn’t recognize the key “Insert”, unless Fn is enabled, and I don’t know why. I found its keycode in xmodmap -kpe: keycode 118 = Insert NoSymbol Insert NoSymbol Insert....
Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS also includes a new hardware enablement stack (HWE) composed of Linux kernel 6.2 and Mesa 23.0.4 (a sizeable update in itself)....
