How do you all go about backing up your data, on Linux?
I’m trying to find a good method of making periodic, incremental backups. I assume that the most minimal approach would be to have a Cronjob run rsync periodically, but I’m curious what other solutions may exist....

What is your opinion on GNOME 3 and 4? Why do you like/dislike it?
I made this post because I really like the design of GNOME, and although i’d like customizability, it is mostly enough for my everyday needs. But I want to understand why people may choose other desktop environments…or why you would/would’nt use GNOME.

Help with WiFi question, please and thank you
Any ideas why, when I’m on live session of a distro, the wifi works just fine, but when I I install it the wifi has a red X over connections? Specifically this happened with Nobara and the reason I’m running Pop!_OS. I’d would love a fix though in case I want to distro hop, but still be able to install it.
I Compiled the Linux Kernel myself for the first time
It’s not really a big deal, but I am currently writing this using a linux kernel I compiled from source, which certainly feels like an accomplishment. The Arch Wiki has made the process fairly easy to follow. I just took the stock Arch Linux configuration without changes for now....

Monitors won’t sleep on idle pc
So I’ve set up pop os, everything went smoothly. But I have a problem - My pc is set to turn screens off after 15 mins, also to lock itself. But when it does that, my monitors shut down for a second, then start again so I can see it’s locked, then after few seconds monitors are blank but not turned off, led indicator is...
Any way to make Ubuntu ignore failed drive mount?
I had a hard drive die today. I shut it down and pulled the drive from the computer, but it didn’t boot and I still couldn’t SSH into it to figure out what was wrong. Finally had to setup a monitor and keyboard to figure out Ubuntu was in emergency mode because the mount failed....
Linux for Microsoft Surface devices. It is reality! (cloudblogs.microsoft.com)
I would like to share with you a very cool project that develops drivers for correct operation of Microsoft Surface devices on Linux. I myself use Surface Pro 6 with these drivers and everything works like a charm (battery life is good, cameras work, stylus, keyboard, touchscreen, screen). The developers are gods. From myself, I...

thumbnails in nautilus on Ubuntu
I have a partition on a remote computer that I mount to my laptop via sshfs. That partition serves as network storage and thus has a lot of pictures and videos on it. But it does not have thumbnails for those. I have installed ffmpegthumbnailer, but that did not fix it. I’m on Ubuntu 23.04. Any ideas?
