Kodemystic , in Ghost apples
@Kodemystic@lemmy.kodemystic.dev avatar

Neat! How come there are apples growing in winter? Or maybe it was an apple that grew before winter, no one picked it up, also it did not fall, so winter comes and voilá?

kjpctech , in World's Longest Wingsuit Proximity Flight | Mont Blanc, France

Everytime I see a wingsuit video they fly so close to the ground… is there an actual reason other than it’s a lot of funner?

linearchaos OP ,
@linearchaos@lemmy.world avatar

I can’t say for sure, since they were trying to go for a distance record it’s possible they were using some form of ground effect to increase the distance on the run. When you travel at a high rate of speed with a wing over a surface, If multiplies the lift force of it.

Maybe there is more air turbulence in the open areas?

Nuts. I wonder if a drone could keep up with them and offer a more cinematic view.

Looks like there’s a mountain next to it. Standing lenticular clouds often form over mountains. This one appears particularly prominent though!

dorkian_gray , in How Quantum Computers Break The Internet... Starting Now
@dorkian_gray@lemmy.world avatar

If you’re worried, don’t be - quantum cryptography is possible too: www.nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2401-y

And it’s even possible to create quantum-resistant encryption algorithms with classical computing: nist.gov/…/nist-announces-first-four-quantum-resi…

The graph on how far off we are, keeps getting shorter with every invention. I strongly suspect when we a couple of years out at most. And that’s if everybody that’s currently in the game is fully reporting it’s possible that large well invested governments could already have something on that works.

Amazon has already implemented kyber. But that’s not going to make it any better if it trips sooner than expected and all SSL and the most SSH becomes vulnerable.

GaryPonderosa , in 1,500-year-old Ceramic Maya Figurine with Removable Helmet, from El Perú-Waka', Petén, Guatemala

Some kid took it out of the packaging so now it’s only worth $2.
