Discovery Freelancer 5.0 - Fire and Fortune has been released!

At long last, “Fire and Fortune”, also known as Discovery Freelancer 5.0, is ready for release. Using the word “patch” really isn’t fair here, this represents by far the most comprehensive update in the mod’s history - with massive overhauls of basic systems in ship mechanics, economy, the story, and many other respects, it’s closer to a new game than an update.

We’d like to thank everyone who contributed on the development side of things, and of course everyone in the community who has kept this game alive by playing on the server and posting on the forums, and have kept their excitement going for all of this admittedly long wait. Many of the changes you may have already read about in the Dev Diaries released, and there will be more details coming, so stay tuned for those. Until then, we encourage you to simply the take the mod’s name to heart and discover what you can yourselves.

I love freelancer, it’s my favorite old space sim. I’m honestly super surprised that both discovery and crossfire are still being developed/played seeing as it’s almost been 20 years!

Perhaps one day star citizen (specifically squadron 42) will pick up this mantle like Chris promised originally. Until then I’ll keep coming back to this game every few years to mess around.
