ExoMonk , in Have you ever felt overwhelmed by how to spend your gaming time?

This happened to me when I was streaming. My favorite hobby became like a job. I only played while streaming and the time I was putting in outside of work was kind of killing me. Working a full day, coming home to do dinner and time with my wife and then start streaming by 8pm a couple days a week. It exhausted me. At some point I started to skip days and then I just never went back. Now I play games as a form of entertainment like watching Netflix/Hulu. I do it for leisure.

Sometimes I miss it though and think maybe I should try and get back into it but so far I've just not.

Mickey , in Have you ever felt overwhelmed by how to spend your gaming time?

Yeah I feel that with many hobbies too as well as gaming. I feel like there is a culture of, if you’re not doing something productive you’re wasting time. But in reality I think everyone needs a break. You can’t possibly be always productive, that ruins the whole point of relaxing!

It’s not easy to get away from either, but I’ve found that dedicating time to just not being productive and filling it with what you want to do is a good start. I work from home now so separating my day into chunks is even more important than ever because I my work space is also my PC gaming space.

Just try not to feel like you need to get something meaningful out of everything I guess. Sometimes it can just be fun.

CybranM , in The Lord of the Rings: Gollum developer to close after disastrous launch

Not surprising but still sad, of course the people making the stupid choices dont face the consequences. I feel for the employees

Shhalahr , in Mortal Kombat 1 has a beloved new character: Johnny Cage’s Roomba

That is awesome.

Wonder how many man hours were spent on that.

rockprada , in The Quest to Beat abney317

Saving this for the right time to watch. SS videos are such a treat. Previewed the first 2 minutes and boy this looks like a good one!

Steeltooth493 , in Hands-on Remnant 2 [Skill Up]

I like the fact that they added a pet dog class for solo play and added dual classing. It looks sick and it's very thoughtful.

sagacity OP ,

On the other hand, I worry about adding a healer class. Part of why I like the co-op experience in destiny 2 is that no one has to do the healing.

Hundun , in How many steam deck folks are here and what are you playing?

I am living my highschool dream by playing heavily modded TES IV: Oblivion on the go.

winterstillness , in Is it me or are games really not fun anymore

It strongly depends on what kind of person you are and how you get your enjoyment out of things. If you understand this, then you can find games that fulfill that.

For example, some people get a dopamine hit when they see numbers go up. Be it level grinding, kill/death ratio, optimize builds. Others like the feeling of exploration. Others want immersion/role-play.

It has nothing to do with "today games bad". Part of that is childhood and nostalgia. You won't get that back.

Figure out what you enjoy. If you like social games and making friends, then you need to lean towards that style of game. RuneScape 2007 is still very much alive today.

What is the current state on SteamOS as a desktop replacement? My understanding is that the currently downloadable version is only the SteamDeck version and not suitable as a Windows replacement for the desktop.

IronDonkey ,

I don’t use it as a desktop replacement (I still have a windows desktop). But I do but default have my deck docked and hooked up to a TV, in desktop mode.

I’ve installed various flatpack programs, to include discord, chrome, and a couple jetbrains ides for various languages. They work great. I’ve done a couple non steam games (diablo), with mild annoyance but success in the end.

I have not used any office programs on it (as much as it’s cool to like Linux, I just think Microsoft wins by a lot there, and have no desire to get them working on Linux).

The deck itself has some power limitations, but I have no reason to think that they would translate to steam os on a more powerful machine.

So basically, it probably depends on what you want. It’s pretty reasonable. Definitely good enough for my secondary computer that blocks ads for videos on my tv. But personally, I still want a windows computer, because windows is the default assumption for most software I use.

Dinonugget , in [VTMB2] Every time I open my wish-list I wonder if this game will release

Same here. I was sooo excited about this game when I first heard of it and saw the trailers. But at this point I barely have any hope left that it will actually be released. It's been so long and too much stuff has happened.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided non lethal playthrough. That and my position on some audiosurf leaderboards.

LordR , in If you could only play one game exclusively, which one would it be?

Crusader Kings 3: It will get updates for years probably, has a very active modding community and you can play in vastly different scenarios. Ranging from historical to Elder Kings, Lord of the Rings and much more.

But it would at some point get bland anyways. I wold probably start to hate it at some point.

Blaiz0r ,

I feel the same about Mount & Blade, the different kinds of mods are brilliant too, from single player total conversions to Horde mode multiplayer

baguettesy , in The Lord of the Rings: Gollum developer to close after disastrous launch

I feel really bad for the employees. Feels like the execs set them up to fail. Hopefully they land on their feet.

Hipstershy , in Steam Summer Sale: Hidden Gem/ Recommendations thread

When I stop plugging Paradise Killer it will be because I am dead and in the ground. Absolute masterpiece of theming and plot. It's a mystery game without the clunky logic puzzles-- just your patience and intuition. And my God, the music. I've been obsessed for over a year now.
