I always felt like this happened in a TOS episode that I saw when I was younger, and assumed the Futurama scene was making fun of that. But ever since I have never been able to find it. Does anyone else remember it? Or is this some Mandela effect thing?

Closest I can think of is in Wrath of Khan when Kirk realizes Khan doesn’t think of ship battles in 3D.
