Nowadays I’m specifically looking for upsetting things.
Specifically, in the hopes that I find someone in a comment with issues similar to mine, to read their story and their feelings, and see their take on it. I don’t have anyone to share mine with, but when I find someone like that, it feels as if I would.

Doomscrolling or seeking out bad news is really bad for your health. www.openaccessgovernment.org/…/143139/

If you feel the (understandable) need to share your issues with others there are much healthier was to do this. Bad news is literally addictive and it is important to break that habit fastcompany.com/…/how-to-stop-your-brains-addicti…

If you still find it necessary to scroll bad news, maybe offset by ending with some positive news as well? groovnow.com/…/where-to-find-good-news-online

It’s important to try and stay happy, friend, now more than ever.

I stopped looking at Lemmy for a long time, up until yesterday, due to the content being really depressing. Reddit didn’t hate society, capitalism, or really everything as much as the Lemmy users seem to. I might stop doomscrolling here again.

YungOnions ,

There’s nothing to be gained by looking at bad news all the time. You must balance it with good news, if for nothing else than to stay informed. There are more positive communities on Lemmy: [email protected] or [email protected] for example, but you’re right negativity, doomerism and defeatism is prevalent on the platform and you absolutely should leave if you find it affecting your mental health.

Please take the time to visit at least some of those websites I linked via my first comment. It does wonders being reminded that the world isn’t doom and gloom all the time like the media likes to pretend it is.

rivalary ,

I did take a look at them and bookmarked one of the news sites, thanks 👍

YungOnions ,

No problem :)

WhyJiffie ,

I think it depends on what communities you were in. I would say that the problem may rather be that Lemmy doesn’t have enough communities around topics that are disconnected from the negative things of the world.

WhyJiffie ,

Thanks. For me it’s not really bad news, though, that just happens to be there and a lot of times I don’t read it. Instead it’s mostly for posts and topics that are personal to the users.

YungOnions ,

I understand. I don’t want to tell you how to live your life online, obviously, but if I may - please be wary of the influence that just being around negative content can bring. It sounds ridiculous, but other people’s negativity can bring you down as well. Misery loves company as they say. Just make sure you take some time out to look after your own mental well being, you know?

You mentioned you don’t have anyone else to share your feelings with online? I can’t promise it’ll help, but you can DM me if you feel the need to chat, OK?.

Leaving your phone far away enough from your bed is the best advice that I wish I’d follow myself.

But then I just bring it to there, and then back when I finally go to sleep
