I think the writers are using that kind of language to show the personality of that character. He doesn’t want to admit (or can’t see/believe) his girlfriend left him because he was a bad partner, and so explains it by saying she became a lesbian. By doing this he absolves himself of any blame, fault, or responsibility for the relationship failing.
I used to be quite conversationally fluent in Japanese and Portuguese. Now it’s difficult for me to remember either. When I hear it, I can understand a lot, but not like before. I would love to be able to speak those again. I speak English, French, and Hungarian now, but I wish my French was better… When you don’t use it, you lose it…
It sounds great, but they are apparently so quiet, being that they actively absorb all ambient sound, that you can hear the blood moving through your veins and most people can’t stand it for more than half an hour.
It’s like being ADHD, there’s less stimulus so your brain starts trying to hear everything it can. This is why I listen to music or a podcast while I work lol
To me, all ASMR content. You think it’s going to give you little frisson tingles or at least be soothing and calm but I hate the mouth sounds (like lip smacks) and the acting is always terrible in the ones that are like pretending to be in a situation with you. And I don’t get the ASMR bodily response.
First gen American here, Russian and English are my primary languages and learning German. I wish I’d taken Spanish lessons more seriously so I could actually hold a conversation in Spanish. Also wish I could understand/use ASL.

Ignoring online idiots wording poor arguments feels hard today and I keep getting lost in thoughts of witty replies. At least I’m keeping myself from replying, which I know wouldn’t lead to any productive conversation.
I would’ve taken Spanish more seriously in high school if I knew I’d end up living on the west coast as an adult. Besides being better able to communicate with people whose first language is Spanish it would also open up so many movies and novels that aren’t translated or subtitled. Arabic would also be cool to learn.
Coffee’s fine, beer’s good. Some decent wine. Tea is meh. Treaty of Versailles is not something people think about a lot. Most people probably aren’t even aware of the role of the British in the bombing.
