Question about possible vulnerability in lemmy

User “Wookie_the_ewok” appears to have changed their username on the same account to “Chuckles the cheese” unless im misunderstanding how lemmy works. Seems sketchy in the sense that could be a way to troll, violate TOS, and evade bans and defederation. Maybe someone more knowledgable than myself could explain better what Im seeing?

You can change your display name, that’s a feature, not a bug.

That would not allow them to evade ban, as bans are based on usernames, that cannot be changed.

User impersonation can be an issue, but usually most clients also show the instance, which would allow other people to know who’s the real person and who’s the imposter.
