Why do most Lemmy clients refuse to show my subscribed communities by default?

So far I’ve used the web frontend, Jerboa, Liftoff, Contact, Voyager, and Thunder, Summit, and Voyager is the only one that will reliably show subscribed communities without periodically switching to local or all. Am I weird for wanting to mostly see what I’ve subscribed to, as opposed to wherever random communities are on my home instance?

This isn’t a tech support question, just a question about why so many developers made what seems to me a weird and user-hostile design decision.

This is more of a support question, related to using Lemmy. Please see the sidebar for a list of communities that offer support or check in the app-specific community. Removing under rule #3.

I had this same problem. I kept changing it in my instance setting on the website and pulling my hair out that it didn’t take.

I eventually found there was a separate setting in my app. Not intuitive but I got there.

Look for the alternate settings. Mine wasn’t even in the main client settings, it was the per instance setting, but in the client.

I just looked at most (if not all) the apps I have. They all had the option to select what you see by default.

Sync does this. The regular free version. You can set the default to subscriptions and even pick the default sorting.

My Voyager also defaults to home (subscriptions). Which I seem to recall was originally set to All but I don’t remember how I changed that.

You can change that in your account settings

That seems to fix it in the web and Jerboa, so thanks for that. I’m still baffled though because the others seem to ignore that setting and don’t even show it in their UI.

Connect for Lemmy calls it “Front page” which confuses some people, but it’s your subscribed communities.

In Liftoff you can also change the default in the settings.

That’s probably a better question for a support community.
