Im writing since january, which platform i choose to post?

Hey 'all

Im writing since the beginning of the year, but dont know which platform choose to post my texts. Is important to say, I write opinions about a very niche topic - about individual sports , sports like we see on Olympic games - and write in my mother tongue - I live in a small country.

I just do this as a hobby btw.

I just accepted that all platforms (medium, substack, …) will sell my soul and has zero privacy respect. Dont know if wordpress belongs to this group, since is open source but belongs to Automatic.

The open source projects that i found (like bear blog and write freely) , I found more focus on daily thoughts, and i guess this not suit me to me, i think(?).

So … In your opinion, which platform should i choose, to at least, ““catch”” one person per year reading what i write? Sell my soul to substack and medium, to catch more people, or open source projects are ok?

P.S. - i cant self-host my site. no money and dont know how to do it.

I recently (as in, 2 days ago) set up a self hosted blog on Gitlab Pages using Hugo. As it’s a static site, hosting is free, though the domain is paid. I was actually just about to start writing a new blog post after catching up with Lemmy. The thing about your own blog is that there are no requirements, constraints or limitations. My first article, about the naming of this blog, and how much I suck at naming things, was a pleasure to write because at times my mind went to whether that was the best way to write or portray something, but then I stopped myself. This is my blog, my rules, and as such, I have complete freedom over it. And it made writing a joy, because I could just be honest and unfiltered. It also quickly made me realise how much I’d hate writing for a big website, where they are likely to have restrictions on some things, or requirements, or promotion and monetisation, that could suck the joy out of doing this, making it something I’d absolutely hate.

But, to each their own. I guess it really depends on what topics you’d like to cover and how you’d like to cover them.

I think that there’s all sort of stuff on writefreely like really wide spread; some short novels, some IT-news, lots of stuff foreign languages, christian sermons and so forth so I wouldn’t hesitate to post there maybe check that, out whether there’s any suitable community at writefreely.org/instances or a general purpose one

Maybe you could deploy a blog on Netlify (which has a free tier) using one of Decap CMS’s starter templates?
