Yeah, I feel like they’re a little late to the party. They should have had this ready to go once they decided they were going to prolong their protest.
I actually like the idea of a lot of the bigger subs getting their own instances. Makes it easier to organize different topics than the flair by just creating separate communities.
IMHO, Lemmy.world is better for like general discussion communities such as memes, TIL, AMA, earthpics, etc. Anything on that instance will always be “general”. Like, [email protected] would be for like general news and updates but [email protected] (not a real instance but just as an example) could be all about art and culture.
This has finally made all of this make a bit more sense with the way that’s worded. I’m still not sure if I’m doing everything right. If the Portland community I see on the instance I’m on is the right one or the o oy one or what the hell. 😂😅
I agree that it sucks, but it’s most likely because 1) the app was removed for some policy reason, or 2) the app targets an older version of the Android SDK that you shouldn’t install on newer devices for security reasons. I have some old apps I don’t want to update that fall into both of these categories.
It would be nice if there was a non-official way to install these old apps, like if they were archived on archive.org or something similar.
I actually swapped to Protonmail last night. Took awhile to change the email address on everything, but worth it. Trying out the free version for now, keeping my Gmail as a backup and for Android.
It’s really good. I have a visionary account now and am very happy with the services. They have matured a lot over the last few years. I’m happy to pay for the security and not being a product.
Pretty neat, installed it from their GitHub. What change I was really hoping for from Geometric Weather was better widgets and to have the widgets include material you colors. Seems like they’re largely unchanged right now.
Although my main one is gmail, I have been using proton mail for a while and I’m getting to point where I trust it for most stuff and I will start to move non-critical stuff away from gmail.
I used AquaMail for years, but they just decided that this fall they will go subscription, and old paid users who bought the app will not get all features. So, I’ve transitioned to the paid (one time purchase) version of Nine email app(by 9folders). It is equally capable, working with my free accounts and my O365 corporate account (including synching calendar). I looked at several open source options, and none were competent to deal with my Work O365 stuff.
