M_Reimer , in is there any note taking app which hides the text written?

I think this would make working with the text incredibly difficult. Do you know about “privacy foils”? They limit the viewing angle and make it more difficult for other people to read your screen.

chiquis71 OP ,

I know what the cons would be, I rather have this than a foil.
In my experience foils obscure your screen in general, so you get inconvenienced always instead of just for a specific app.

They all kinda suck at this stage.

Google Notes: Hosted Obsidian is AMAZING! You can self host for free, but I recommend supporting them.

1Password: I use Bitwarden (personal) and Keeper (work). Both, in my opinion, much better than 1Pass.

WhatsApp: this one is hard, as it has to do with your contacts. I’m in the same boat here. I use Signal for most friends, but my foreign friends use WhatsApp, which means that I do too.

sloppy_diffuser ,

I use pretty much the same stack except I use Standard Notes over Obsidian. Obsidian I will agree has more polish, but Standard Notes is open source and undergoes 3rd party security audits every couple years. I’m okay with things being rough around the edges if a project aligns with my own principals.

I’m not familiar with Standard Notes, but I like what I’m reading about them so far. E2ee is super important and is a bit annoying that I have to encrypt my Obsidian md notes folder. That said, the fact that the notes are standard md is super nice. I may try Standard Notes. Thanks!

prey169 , in S22 Series vs S23 Series vs Pixel 7 series

From what I’ve seen, 23u has a good 3 hours extra battery life compared to the 22u and it will run cooler. I think in regards to any of these phones, performance is gonna be great and negligible.

I prefer Samsung over pixels these days, mostly because I feel like Google has some flaws with software bugs and I’m not a fan of their new quick toggle menu compared to the older one that Samsung still uses. And I prefer good lock mostly just to move the clock back to the right side of the notification bar.

But if you prefer pixels phones, I think battery life will be on par with the last year snapdragon phones if not slightly worse

Lzwzli , in Jerboa currently unusable for other people?

Works for me.

Workaround: create a Lemmy account and subscribe to your favorite Kbin magazines.

I'm finding Kbin's PWA perfectly fine for now, honestly! I'll likely switch to an app once there's a good one available, but I don't feel like my experience is bad right now.

IndomitableAlbus , in lemmy apps you should try and experiment with

I was using Connect but recently switched to Liftoff, just seems a little bit nicer.

Wyvven , in What are Android's Best Weather Apps?

I like Today Weather (paid app IIRC). Has customixable widgets

IndomitableAlbus , in What are your favorite (FOSS if possible) launchers?

Total Launcher for me, the learning curves a bit steep but once mastered it’s like a cross between Nova and KLWP combined.

I'm also using Memmy for iOS, but it's under beta on TestFlight.
https://github.com/gkasdorf/memmy

Also tried wefwef. It looks cool and all, but it's a web app in the end. Not really a fan of those and they tend to consume more battery than the native experience.

Why did I just sign up for GitHub?

RyeBread ,

You don't need an account to download releases, but now that you have an account I think it's the universe telling you to pick up programming and to give your soul to the GitHub like the rest of us.

Aegis: 2fa. Free, open source.

Auto Auto-rotate: per app rotation settings. Free, open source.

Missed notifications reminder: adds a repeating sound or vibration if a watched app has an active notification. Ie, you got an email when you were away from your phone so every few minutes your phone makes a beep or whatever so you don't need to check the screen constantly. Free, open source.

MJ PDF: simple, fast PDF reader. Free, open source.

Snap drop: web based instant file transfer between devices. Free, open source.

X-Plore: the only file manager that ever clicked for me. Dual pane that's really intuitive. Absolutely packed with features (connects with local network, cloud providers, ftp, ssh, dlna, has file sync)

Looks like lemmotif is in super beta and can’t even add an account. It does load pretty quickly though.

j_roby , in Hidden Gems: Unveiling Apps That Could Have Enhanced Your Experience Sooner?

Musicolet is a great app. I’ve been using it for a long time.
