Agree - I jumped from a OnePlus 5T to a Pixel 5a 2 years ago and have no regrets. It really depends on what you’re modding for, but I found that on Pixel not having (as much) bloatware, getting the latest Android updates, having real Google Camera support instead of chasing the best mod, and using Wavelet instead of Viper4Android took care of most of my rooting needs. Instead, with the unlockable bootloader I’ve been able to explore custom OSes like GrapheneOS which has been really great!
I have 240 total apps on my phone, so probably about 210 non system apps.
For apps I use the most currently, here is my guess:
Firefox
Jerboa to kill time. This used to be Reddit.
Music Speed Changer: An app to playback local audio with a different speed and pitch with minimal distortion. This is my primary music player.
FX file manager. I use it to look at photos and local videos.
An app to get directions from point A to point B using public transit in my city.
GSMArena: An app for phone news and reviews. One of the rare cases where the app is actually naturally better than the mobile website.
Google maps. I want to degoogle but I literally use this app for work.
Messages. For text messages.
Camera. Interesting that it’s this far down.
NewPipe for background playback of music found only on YouTube. It barely edges out the official YT app to get on this list, as the amount of ads on mobile YT is too much (especially the homepage, ugh) unless I’m watching a creator that I know deserves the ad revenue.
For Gmail users on Mac desktop, I really can’t recommend Minestream enough, if a paid app isn’t a dealbreaker. It’s designed by ex-Applers and implements gmail’s API completely— even to the point of the signature editor and vacation auto responder and having a mode that only shows unread messages and starred messages in your inbox (which is kind of a badass way to stay on top of busy mailboxes).
Many years ago, delisted apps used to stay on your IOS device but if you ever uninstalled them, they'd be gone for good. No idea if that's still the case.
Yes this is still the case, I can still download Alien Blue for instance. I tried using it for fun 2 weeks ago and it was working absolutely fine still. Now it probably finally broke though, but I can still download the app from my purchased apps list.
