This place hates Elon Musk so goddamn much they suddenly become experts on satellites. I bet Musk has very little to do with the day to day at Starlink.

vind ,
@vind@lemmy.world avatar

One can hate Musk and Starlinks separately.

They ruin our night sky and make Kessler syndrome worse and worse.

cricket97 ,

The number of satellites in orbit right now should have next to 0 impact on your view of the night sky. This can be proven with some pretty simple equations. Should we get rid of GPS satellites too?

rez_doggie ,
cricket97 ,

what is this supposed to prove. Go outside at night and look, they’re not clogging up the sky. At the very worst they’re a faint little line you can barely see. I think that is worth giving internet to unserved areas of the world.

AA5B ,

These are also mostly irrelevant to Kessler syndrome. At such low orbits, any debris is cleaned out in months or only a couple years

I could just be dumb, but I hope that it’ll still use the switch cartridge. Like how they did it with the DS line up until the 3DS when they changed it. I could see them potentially doing that too. If it does I’ll finally jailbreak my OG switch with the tegra exploit. Just been too much of a scaredy cat to do it.

newthrowaway20 ,

I was thinking this earlier today. If they do make the switch 2 compatible with current switch games, physical and digital, it’ll be a damn near instant day 1 buy for me.

Does anyone know if current Pixel/Samsung hardwarewill support this??

It doesn’t seem like they’ve said one way or the other (unless I missed something). It would be nice if it did but if I’m being honest I’m guessing no. If only new phones will have it then it will push more people to continue their yearly/bi-yearly upgrade cycle.

I refuse to “upgrade” until they put the aux port back. Still rocking my 4a 5G, it’s great AND has an aux port tyvm.

I’m sad that my phone broke a few months before it was released, especially since the prices were around the same!

    Though, I’m happy with my 512gb 1IV that I got sooner than the 256gb 1V :) Congrats!

    Auli ,

Sure but the rating means nothing. Phones still get water damaged and if they do are not covered by warranty. Just makes it harder to water damage.

    renohren ,

Yeah, but that’s a headphone jack, so there is a DAC somewhere in the phone. The traditional 3.5 mm AUX port is meant to have no DAC behind it and is made to directly plug into an amplifier, I believe you and OP are talking about 2 different things.

A 3.5 mm AUX port on a digital only output device would need a DAC , thought I usualy only see a 3.5 mm headphone jack on those devices, rarely a 3.5 mm AUX port). Analogue capable devices sometimes had two 3.5 mm ports for ages, one for headphones using an internal amplifier (often pretty bad)and one to plug directly into an amplifier called the 3.5mm AUX. Sound wasn’t preamplified before the 3.5 mm AUX plug. That caused many people to confuse 3.5 mm AUX and 3.5 mm headphone jacks and wonder why the sound was barely within hearing range. I beleive OP got confused in the nomenclature.

They make the grace arm cpu to pair with hopper GPU instead of AMD epyc and Intel xeon in data center products. They released a first version that replace these processors in their data center offering (formerly dgx). This is the announcement of the next generation of this offering Vera-Rubin will replace Grace-Hopper.

I don’t think they have announced anything about bringing this offering to the consumer space.

    yggstyle ,

Until the ai bubble pops and they are hemorrhaging money they likely will not be terribly interested in the consumer space. It’s easier to fleece corporate customers in a market where the numbers are made up and immediate returns don’t matter.

I’m no expert by any means but it seems incredibly wasteful that we build satellites, then expel tons of CO2 into the atmosphere to get them into orbit, only for them to just burn up after a few years.

We can’t even reclaim the material because it literally burns and disintegrates as it’s falling out of orbit.

Seriously what the fuck are we doing???

Any word on a Citra replacement? I remember a while back I tried to look for an alternative just for compatibility for certain games and I couldn’t find much. It seemed like Citra was the only good option for actually playing games. When you add in that the 3DS is no longer sold or supported, plus the hardware gimmicks that led to most games being exclusive to that platform, and also the sheer discomfort my adult hands experience trying to hold such a small device, I’d really much rather play those games on the Deck or with a controller.

The Switch is still young. It’s Nintendo’s active console so they’re dedicating more security and legal resources to protecting it, but I’m sure that will be reduced after the Switch 2 launches. RyuJinx is still a solid option, and when you add these various forks I’m sure emulation will be in a good spot in time.

NocturnalMorning , (edited ) to piracy in Yuzu Nintendo Switch Emulator Lives On With The Nuzu, Suyu Projects

You should really probably keep this on the DL. No reason to shut the project down regardless of what Nintendo does, but this needs to be done quietly now since it’s gotten a ton of attention.

Edit: Just bcz, fuck you nintendo, I’m never buying your consoles again. You lost any remaining sliver of goodwill you had with this move.
