LMAO, Russians see nothing wrong with this.

PlatypusXray , to worldnews in Putin set to visit China in October - Kremlin adviser, cited by TASS

Thank you! Thank you for this invitation. I was asked to share some insights. More precisely, I was not asked, but anyway, here is my advice: First you threaten to invade Taiwan. Threaten often and for a long time, gather troops but don’t make the move just yet! The trick is to give them enough time to get armed to the teeth. Then you attack, get repelled in the most humiliating way and that’s when you start making more threats against NATO and maybe Walmart. Don’t worry if you’re not making progress. Just keep sending poorly equipped and untrained troops. Thank you for your attention!

Just to note that this is Michael Gove, so I would take that “immovable” with a mine of salt.

Surely they don’t need young men to keep the economy going, do they?

They have clearly demonstrated that they do not. But like 70+% of the federal budget is pumped, dug or mined from the ground, and the needed workforce for that is rather small, so it’s not like they give a shit.

independantiste , to technology in Apple faces $1 bln UK lawsuit by apps developers over app store fees
@independantiste@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t care about the 15 or 30% cut they take, that’s pretty standard in retail and other software stores. What I do care about though is the fact that my freedom to install whatever I like on my phone is non existent on iOS. When I will be able to install Revanced and F-Droid equivalents on iOS I may consider it, but until that happens, it’s an absolute no from me

ProcurementCat , to worldnews in Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant makes shutdown transition for maintenance

Reuters fails to provide extremely important context here:

“In order to conduct a scheduled technical inspection of the equipment of power unit No. 5, the management of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant decided to transfer it to the ‘cold shutdown,’ state,” the administration said on its Telegram channel.

“And in order to provide steam for the station’s own needs, the reactor plant of power unit No. 4 was transferred to the ‘hot shutdown’ state.”

As the article explains, one reactor has to provide a very limited amount of steam to power the station and cooling systems itself, while the other reactors are “really” shut down. The russian invaders have now designated power unit 4 for this. However, this is the unit which was mined by the russian military and where russia prevents access to the IAEA observers.

So, it seems like russia is increasing the results of a radiation disaster if unit no. 4 is intentionally blown up.

mark_dennis1199 , to news in "Last hope": Eager Germans are prepared to pay for weight-loss drug

I don’t understand why insurance and health plans are denying paying for Wegovy. They rather shell out far more money for treatment of complications and co-mprbidities related to obesity than pay for the drug now? It’s being penny-wise and pound-foolish.

southsamurai ,
@southsamurai@sh.itjust.works avatar

It’s still an off label use, from what I was told. That’s the excuse anyway, but it’s a common excuse for insurance refusals

mark_dennis1199 ,

Wegovy is indicated for the treatment of obesity. It’s Ozempic that’s being used off-label for weight loss.
