Alabama right now had the Supreme Court tell them that African Americans deserved more representation in the congressional maps. The Republicans said No, we will still draw the maps so we win and the African Americans will not.

I thought they were banning cruise ships? The article mentioned the paying part that they put on hold but didn’t talk about the cruise ship issues.

Amsterdam is banning cruise ships not Venice.

Ah, thanks. The comment implied it was recent.

HobbitFoot ,

Cruise ships isn’t the major threat.

Venice is slowly sinking in a time of rising oceans. There is currently a storm barrier protecting the city from coastal surges, but there is a worry that the lagoon will turn into a lake.

pelespirit ,
@pelespirit@sh.itjust.works avatar

Then why is Unesco asking them to get rid of them? They are a huge threat.

HobbitFoot ,

It is a way of handling the overtourism. Cruise ships are usually the worst tourists for an area as they clog the more famous monuments and contribute the least to the local economy.

bernieecclestoned , to news in Islamic State claims responsibility for Pakistan bombing, death toll rises to 45

So, Islamists killing other islamists?

Blamemeta ,

Yeah, same old. The religion of peace(that worships a warlord)(that still hasn’t had a reformation)(that is responsible for Al Qaeda, Taliban, and ISIS) is just being peaceful again.

NoneOfUrBusiness ,

Uh... I'll have to point out the Irish potsto famine (if you're Christian) and literally every communist regime out there (if you're atheist). But, more importantly, Islam never actually claims to be a religion of peace. Islam emphasizes fighting back against injustice (not saying that's what ISIS and crew are doing) and discourages turning the other cheek. So... Yeah, get your islamophobia right.

Tangent5280 ,

Islam never claims to be a religion of peace… Except for the legions of real life muslims that insist on that very exact same thing, so much so as to have it on banners during protests.

GPT-4 writes better code than the junior developers on my team. I wish they would use it as a rubber duck, at the least.

It often requires iteration and asking for certain things (logging, error handling, simplification/maintainability, etc.) but it gets there. I think it would eventually be possible to get AI at a place where it thinks about these things automatically instead of requiring prodding.

Still doesn’t replace people, but makes them more effective.

Half of every morning meeting is trying to work out wtf is happening with teams in my experience.

A frequent occurrence is when it, without warning, changes your text to right-to-left Arabic layout, so every now and again you get a message from a colleague that reads like they’re trapped in the black lodge

I also had a moment yesterday when pop up messages took over almost my entire screen and I had to force quit teams. If anyone used to get pop up spammed back on MSN Messenger twenty years back it was just like that.

    Teams is absolute fucking shite.
