Showroom7561 , to worldnews in Spain's unemployment rate falls to 15-year low of 11.60% in Q2

11.6% unemployment seems really, really high for a developed country! What’s the hell is up, Spain?

huojtkeg ,

Real unemployment (calculated with the total number of hours worked, number of temporary workers… etc) is between 19% and 23%. It has been like this since 2008 crisis. The unemployment among youth people is 45%.

There a many reasons, not just one. Imho it’s related to the tourism (summer season), we have few industry (full time jobs all year), unemployment benefits are very generous (there are some jobs in agriculture that are done just by inmigrants from moroco with temporary visa, the landlords don’t find Spanish people to work)

huojtkeg , to worldnews in Spain's unemployment rate falls to 15-year low of 11.60% in Q2

Stats are manipulated. 3 years ago the government changed the name of the temporary job contracts to “discontinuous permanent worker”. They are hired by a company but they only work few days or even few months a year. People with that kind of contract does not count as unemployed, even if they only work few days a year.

Most of the workers with that kind of contract want to work a full time job but they can’t due to the high unemployment. The same as before but now the stats looks better.

testingtesting123 ,
@testingtesting123@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Stats are not perfect but they are not manipulated. People working less hours are still workers. Global working hours have also increased. Minijobs in Germany are similar.

huojtkeg ,

No, we have more employment with less working hours.

eleconomista.es/…/la-falla-del-record-de-ocupacio…

testingtesting123 ,
@testingtesting123@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I am not saying otherwise, total working hours have increased, but if you divide by workers have decreased, elpais.com/…/las-horas-trabajadas-alcanzan-las-co… .

But if there were manipulation of data the amount of hours wouldn’t increase. There is a difference in saying the data is manipulated and saying the data don’t tell you the whole story, one questions the data and good faith, the other questions the completeness of the analysis.

Furthermore, the unemployment rate doesn’t tell you the whole story because working hours and salaries. The later have not increased meaningfully in the last 20 years… meaning people actually need to work more to have the same life level.

LibertyLizard , to news in Spain's unemployment rate falls to 15-year low of 11.60% in Q2

Is unemployment calculated differently in Spain? It seems incredible that so many people are looking for work all the time over the last few years.

I remember about a year ago I mentioned on Reddit that Teams was not only a security risk, but the bundling alone would get them in hot water with the EU. Microsoft astroturfers came out en masse to claim I had no idea how vanilla Teams was.

And here we are. Microsoft always tries to build competitive advantages that break the law and then use them, and yet people still think they would never use the things they actively build and deploy.

Naive.

bossito , to world in Putin promises African leaders free grain despite 'hypocritical' Western sanctions
@bossito@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t have much hopes for the average African leader… many of them will by this. Europe should definitely focus help and investments on the few African nations with reasonable leaders that don’t treat Europe as the threat and Russia as the friend. Investing one cent in the countries with leaders educated in the former USSR is a waste of ressources, they’re brainwashed since youth. We need to separate the wheat from the chaff.

It seems everyday that goes by I have more of a reason to dislike Tesla

money_loo , to news in Reuters: Tesla’s secret team to suppress thousands of driving range complaints

Gas cars do this too.

Years ago I bought an Infiniti truck that advertised 18 mpg. After owning and driving it I only got 9 mpg.

I wish the government would crack down harder on this sort of blatant misleading “advertising” so gas or electric, we’d have a better idea of what we’re purchasing.

Fapper_McFapper ,

Yes but I can usually walk to a gas station, buy a gas can, fill it up, walk back to my car, pour gasoline in the tank and then drive away.

What am I supposed to do if I own a Tesla? Walk to the nearest Lowe’s, purchase a multi fuel generator, attach it to my car, then walk to the gas station, buy a gas can, fill it up, walk back to the car, fill up the generator, crank the generator, hook it up to my car, then drive away?

RojoSanIchiban ,

This is decades-old hypothetical that just doesn’t happen in the real world unless the driver is an idiot. Never in the quarter century of driving gas vehicles did I ever run out of gas.

Likewise you don’t just suddenly run out of charge in an EV. In Teslas you get automatically routed to superchargers, and if somehow you’re too far away from the nearest one, you get miles and miles of warnings about having an insufficient charge to reach it if you, I dunno, somehow camped for days with the A/C on in the middle of nowhere.

In that catastrophic event, you stop literally anywhere with any AC outlet, you plug in your mobile charger, and wait less time than it’d take to hike to a gas station to charge enough to make it to a DC fast charger. Or better yet, someone tow-charges you through regenerative braking for a couple miles and you end up with more than enough to make it to a supercharger.

The article is about total range advertised vs. real world range, and you can go literally anywhere in the lower 48 and be in easy range of a DC fast charger, let alone a 120v outlet.

@Voyajer @TheTango @money_loo

All of them ... or at least most of them. The numbers given are based on limited variables and almost never include qualifiers like proper tire pressure must be maintained, easy acceleration vs flooring it, usage of AC, etc etc ... which all affect fuel consumption rates.

Voyajer ,
@Voyajer@kbin.social avatar

Nobody should expect to reach fuel efficiency targets if they don't even attempt to drive efficiently. Your other points stand though.

money_loo ,

It was a QX56 before they renamed it, but like that other guy said, it’s pretty much all of them as the car manufacturers are incentivized to give you the absolute best case usage scenarios for everything, and then slap that on a sticker as if it’s real world data.

Of course they did.

The days in which businesses competed by trying to make the best possible product for the best possible price are dead and gone - sacrificed on the altar of shortsighted greed.

The current strategy is to make the shittiest possible product for the highest possible price, then try to manipulate things so that it sells anyway.

And that's been Tesla's strategy since day one.

Four_lights77 ,

This has always been an underlying scam of capitalism. It’s usually much more profitable to lie and make money than it is to provide a truly good product and/or service.
