Apart from all the important critique: “…creating a beautiful and modern decorative piece” Seriously? It’s commenting about what you need to find nice?

The subtext there is “looks much less like a tech toy, which is why Glass didn’t catch on.”

I got these before I cared about privacy. Wish I didn’t.

fer0n OP , (edited )

Wdym, you got one of them and you‘ve been enjoying it, but don’t like the potential privacy implications?

ultra ,

Yup.

fer0n OP , (edited )

What have you been mostly using them for if I may ask? And how much do you use them in general?

ultra ,

For privacy reasons (and also because it’s winter :p) I no longer use them that much, but when I did use them they were mostly show-offs. I also had to be really careful not to get them wet because of how expensive they are. They also aren’t that comfortable

SecretPancake ,

So even without the privacy concerns they are not worth it after all.

ultra ,

Yup.

Once again

If a friend starts wearing these around, I will hang out with them a lot less. If at all

What about all of the smart securicams all over the place these days? Those are just as much of a privacy risk.

adespoton ,

No, they really aren’t, because they’re at a fixed location and are all monitored by different mega corporations.

The closest thing is Ring doorbells, and even those are only located at people’s doors.

And they sell the data from them as a secondary revenue stream. Not just Ring doorbells, too: IoT security cameras are all over Shodan.

DarkThoughts , to games in Meta announces always online DRM for all existing and future Quest VR devices

All the shills promised me and other doubters that something like this would never happen. I'm glad I lost all interest in Oculus the moment Facebook bought them.
Hopefully we'll see some solid info on the Deckard this year.

keeb420 ,

Same. And it's sad because, from what others have said, they are great vr headsets. Hopefully valve nails it with Deckard.

No fucking way I’ll consider buying one now.

archchan ,

My consideration was off the table after Facebook bought Oculus.

doppelgangmember ,

Or be like me. Get one then Meta buys the company. Z_z

Thanks4Nothing ,

Bad luck man. I would have bought a rift if Facebook didn’t ruin it.

Chainweasel ,

I always wanted one, but when they made it a requirement to have and link a Facebook account to use it I completely lost interest.
