Honestly, I’m rooting for Sovvy here in a “enemy of my enemy” kind of sense. I hate CC companies a lot more than I do lower-income people, and the more of their time that they waste, the better off I am.

As it should be. There’s no point doing research if you don’t publish all the relevant information. Now that journals are electronic, you can and there’s no excuse not to.
If you don’t know why the appendix exists, try reading it.
No need to rush to conclusions, I do read appendices when needed. My point is not that authors should cut the appendices or compromise on any other good open science practices. The point is that disproportionately large appendices make one wonder if some of that stuff actually belongs in the main text. If it is just a robustness check that gives a similar result, fine, make a footnote in the main text and put the analysis in the appendix. But what if it is actually relevant information that changes the perception of the main text?
They really seem to think that every business out there has just overlooked whatever secret loophole these SovCit idiots think allows them to just take whatever they want. Apparently a form 1099A is for the transfer of abandoned property, and 1099C is for dismissing debt.
So it looks like this smoothbrain thought that the car rented to them was abandoned by the rental company, and they could also just… sign a paper that makes their own debt go away.
I love how the SovCits also always seem to mention that they’ve never heard back from anyone who successfully pulled off this little stunt, as though that’s no sort of hint that it doesn’t actually work that way.
They mention this EVERY time, and are utterly bewildered by the fact that it didn’t work for them. I’ve never seen anything like it. I realize there are sovcit “gurus” on Telegram and such that tell them this, but they never seem to learn from one another and their failures. It’s wild.
(Actually once a server told me there might be a group of 20 people and EVERY SINGLE ONE of them will wait for the server to say “…and would you like hash browns or home fries? Wheat or white toast? Buttered or butter on the side?” to EVERY one of them. Thanked me when I picked up after the two people before me were asked to specify a couple things, then explained that.)
See the way I look at it is, the question of what sides you want is part of the handshake specified by the protocol. You order your main dish, and then the server confirms that you ordered correctly by asking what sides you want. If you expected to be asked about sides and the server fails to confirm, then you need to engage in error correction. “Did that come with sides?” “Oh you wanted the full meal, not the a la cart.”
