The “Forgetting How Your Own Code Works” is real. I’ve looked at code, thought to myself “what fcking idiot wrote this garbage”, only to see my own name next to it. It’s a very humbling experience

He absolutely nailed it, actually. The fact that you posted it speaks to the success of the viral marketing campaign. If you’re in doubt that this is an ad, either turn on sound or notice that the weirdly big URL tag on his pullover goes unpractically over the zipper.

Yup, it’s very well staged.

Or just that the url contains the word “shop”. That’s usually a pretty reliable sign that someone’s selling something 🤷

This reminds me of a stupid joke:

“Oh, my car’s been flattened by a big stone, you know one of those massive, round stones?”

“Boulder?”

“MY CAR’S BEEN FLATTENED…”

ZoopZeZoop ,

You had an opportunity to actually make the text bold, and you missed it.

jaybone ,

It’s also awkwardly worded. You would say “a boulder?”

Though that leaves the door open to repeat the first line and put the letter a in bold. Which might actually be funnier.

Counteroffer. We eliminate copyright laws all together. For anyone and everyone.

Let move to a system in which we found the projects before their release. And once released they are available to everyone for free.

Also let’s make a system where everyone can work a basic work like 20-30 hours a week and get a living wage and the rest of the time we can just produce art of any kind of thing for free to anyone as we’ll already had our needs covered and we won’t have the need to monetize every second of out existence.

Considering that original works are discarded, it’s strange how effective they’re at plagiarizing them

Womble ,

Yep, its definitely not possible that nice small businesses like universal and sony would sue without an actual case in order to try and crush competitors with costs.

soul ,
@soul@lemmy.world avatar

In the same way that a person can learn the material and also use that knowledge to potentially plagiarize it, though. It’s no different in that sense. What is different is the speed of learning and both the speed and capacity of recall. However, it doesn’t change the fundamental truths of OP’s explanation.

Also, when you’re talking specifically about music, you’re talking about a very limited subset of note combinations that will sound pleasing to human ears. Additionally, even human composers commonly struggle to not simply accidentally reproduce others’ work, which is partly why the music industry is filled with constant copyright litigation.

fruitycoder ,

I mean saying they learn is huge kudos to the people that made this tbh

I’m not sure how and I’m not sure why but scooter is unequivocally the perfect title to resemble your cat. Not that he looks like or even reminds me of a scooter but that whenever I see him, it rings in my ears more ferociously than tinnitus ever could, … “scooter”.

Scooter is one of the first cats I began identifying on lemmy because of the sheer perfection of his name in correspondence to physical presence. I would not believe you if you said you thought of any other names, because no other name could be appropriate for him, aside from scooter.

jaamesbaxterr OP ,

His full name is Scooter Bug, because when he was a kitten he would incessantly bug the other cats. Here’s him as a kitten

I know that train model, we had them here too; they’re pretty heavy and expensive compared to the lighter rail models that many companies are buying now. It has quite a heavy frame compared to newer models.

I also suspect most tesla workers don’t come by train anyway, so they don’t need that much capacity.

MonkderVierte , (edited )

If i remember right, they had multiple issues (forgot accessibility for one) and defects at first too. Though i quite like them.

edit: it was Bombardier?

I like them for nostalgia reasons, but definitely not for quality reasons. Though I must say, the rail service has refreshed them a few years back and they’re not as bad as they used to be, though it does feel like they’re the model that breaks down the most whenever there’s some sort of extreme weather

The biggest problem is acceleration, though, which is still an issue for lines with many stops like the ones you see here. I imagine they’d do a lot better in countries that have lines where trains can go at least half an hour without stopping anywhere.

Maybe we’ll see the return of double deckers once Tesla makes its first double decker car (I’m thinking “terrible electric RV with a tiny sleeping area on top”) so they’re cool again.

It doesn’t double the capacity. It’s more a 30% increase. And, double-deckers are actually old. They date from the 19th century. In 1855, the Chemin de fer de l’Ouest introduced double-deckers on suburban lines of Paris.

Modern double-deckers date from the 1930s, with the Voiture à étage Etat:

Yahoo is just a terrible news source in general tbh

Trainguyrom ,

I think they do new aggregation rather than original reporting? Idk I haven’t really looked at yahoo in about 20 years

bluewing ,

Yahoo, like all home pages and web news sites are aggregators. Just like most websites these days. There are few original sources for international and national news reporting anymore. And the vast majority of websites simply buy the news they want.

It’s one big circle jerk with everyone citing pretty much the same sources all the time.

jasonkozdra , to technology in The Irony of 'You Wouldn't Download a Car' Making a Comeback in AI Debates

A perfect analogy.

Xatolos ,
@Xatolos@reddthat.com avatar

I don’t feel it is. They aren’t saying that their physical requirements should be free (computers, engineers, programmers, electricity, etc…) which is what is being used for the analogy (cheese, ingredients, etc…).

It would be better to claim “I run a sandwich shop and couldn’t afford to run it if I had to pay for every recipe, idea, and technique I use in the business.”

Now, it’s not as simple as this, and I’m not claiming it is. But this example isn’t anywhere near correct. It’s like the old claim that pirating something is the same as stealing it. The usage on one thing doesn’t equal the loss of something physical.

It’s one of those reasons why laws about this are difficult. Too strict and no one would be able to do “fan”-anything and many other issues (“if it uses AI” takes out many digital tools, etc…), too loose and you don’t really have laws at all.
