Adults without kids should bring speakers with crying noises blasting from it. When people understandably get upset tell them to deal with your bad decisions.
I know hardware compatibility has massively improved, but back when I was messing with Linux in high school compatibility was a huge issue. I managed to end up with two laptops and some desktop hardware that were truly difficult to get running. It’s like I somehow found a list of incompatible hardware and chose the worst options.
The most frustrating were an evil Broadcom (I think) wireless card and an AMD switchable card (they did actually make a few). That graphics card wasn’t supported for very long and was a bother even in Windows.
Edit to add: I was just saying that to point out why some people might have that opinion, even if it isn’t valid anymore. I’m actually thinking of jumping back on the Linux bandwagon.
To be fair… Mac works 90% with Mac hardware. It’s third party things that can screw you up… Like that pesky “USB” everyone is talking about. Who knew reading the official documentation and creating a USB driver for your own chipset would break all the USB devices not made by Mac? Who would have thought? At least there is an Intel emulation layer you can run in…
Linux will be my next OS. Win11 is a nightmare, and now with the huge progress Linux has made in the gaming space, is just a no brainer.
I’m not very experienced with it yet, but I did dial not it for a while back in college, back when Ubuntu’s Feisty Fawn was the newest shit, and Edgy Eft was the more established version. I didn’t do a whole lot with it, because I mainly used the PC to write papers for classes and gaming. And Linux gaming back then was mostly non existent.
But I did ok with using it for browsing and research and using LibreOffice to write the document. Actually had to manually write a cfg file to get the extra buttons on my mouse to work like they were supposed to.
Long story short, I don’t have much knowledge of it these days, that was back in 04-06ish. But I know enough to know how to look for what I need. And I have a friend who’s already made the switch for the same reason. I’m just paranoid to switch to it completely, as I’ve never done that, but I think I’ll be building a new rig soon anyway, so I might just start fresh with Linux for that.
Either way I’ll switch by the time Win10 ends support. I will not be installing 11 on anything of mine. I’ll probably still have family that will need it, but I’m not doing it.
Those Broadcom wireless cards gave me PTSD. The only way I got one of them working was compiling the raw firmware blobs into my kernel on a Gentoo stage 3 install… I shutter imagining administering that system as my daily driver. It was a good learning experience but I’m not cut out for that level of effort just to surf the web, open some documents, and play DOOM.
Why not make an airline for people with kids and then they could deck the inside of the plane out to make it fun for kids complete with a flying tube sized playground, maybe a mini arcade, and definitely a ball pit. The pilots could even be those creepy ass animatronic creatures from Chuck-E-Cheese.
Or it’s simply not economically viable to use half of the airplane as a playground, because parents will never be willing to spend 2x the amount on flight tickets because they’re perpetually broke
They could also make every second row smaller child’s seats and put them closer together to fit more people and children in the plane. Bonus: the parents can use the top of the kiddie seats as a footrest.
JFC, some of these responses here about people with children “should” do this or that. This is precisely why Reddit and most social media is cancer and people filled with 0 social and life skills.
Parents shouldn’t have to do anything. If you have an issue with a crying child, the onus is on you to find another space for yourself to make yourself comfortable instead of mandating what other people should/should not do.
Does that mean that parents should let their kids run around? Hell no. But this also means that you stop acting like another baby and find a way to adjust just like everyone else incl other parents.
Internet thinks that parents with children should stay home in shame and never leave the house.
Flights are not comfortable by design, people dont always donit for the fun. Sometime you really have to take a flight even if you dont want to. Parents too.

FTFY. The problem with this argument is it’s just as self-centered as the others. If your child starts crying or throwing a fit, go to the bathroom or something, soothe it, and come back. It’s not that hard. If your child isn’t poorly behaved, it won’t cause any other problems. Don’t let your child bother other people by being a nuissance. It’s not on them it’s not their child.
I don’t know how to comment when I see this. I want to talk about how this works, but most people know how this works. So I don’t know why its a thing. Its funny though.
I would like to hear an actual explanation. I don’t know shit about light physics but my attempt to explain it is that the trajectory of the light is such that it reflects off of the egg into your eyes and that it is this trajectory that is reflected in the mirror.
My wife was having a brain fart once and knew there was a logical reason but couldn't figure it out atm. So I drew a diagram top down geometry class style. Set her straight just like that. It's just the light bouncing at an angle so that you can see what is on the front of the paper.
This particular version is more about the characters depicted (Denji and Power from Chainsaw Man), who are famous for being endearingly stupid.
The more earnest versions you tend to see on TikTok are mostly posted by, or at least targeted at, actual kids who don't yet understand how vision works. Nobody on Lemmy is under the age of 30.
The entitlement of the edgy childfree people (not all childfree people; most of you are cool) is hilarious. Screeching about entitled parents daring to take their children in public because they (the edgy childfree people) are entitled to being perfectly comfortable at all times. The irony is amazing.
We’re overpopulated, so no. If the earth were healthy, not having rising sea levels detracting habitable lands, weather that wasn’t ruining crops, and the list goes on… we could easily handle this many people and more. But uh, not so much right now. Food shortages are coming.
It is not about taking them to public places and you damn well know that! It’s putting them into a metal tube with a lot of stressors and ruining the flight of many many other people just because you couldn’t be bothered to take a break from flying for the first 2-3 years of their life.
Lol you guys are ridiculous. Get over yourself. My family has to miss several years of anything that requires a plane so YOU don’t have to be mildly inconvenienced for half an hour? Sure, bud.
