Imagine being a developer and getting a phone call at 9pm on Friday of a holiday weekend and being greeted with “Sooooo real funny story. We’re going to need to do some heavy load testing on the production server and we’re gonna need you to come in”
I would simply say no. But, by this point, I would have been loudly voicing all of the potential problems. Not my problem they ignored all the warnings, I’m not gonna give up a holiday weekend for their fuck up.
In a company like Twitter, that isn’t going to offer you any kind of protection from getting fired or disciplined. Elon will just fire you anyway.
He doesn’t have the nuance and foresight to consider any of the experience of his employees because nothing he does with Twitter has any kind of strategy behind it.
He thinks Twitter is Tesla and he can do whatever he wants, but even with Tesla he’s starting to realize how wrong that actually is.

i have no idea where the image is originally from; i saw it somewhere with the caption “not sure if this has been posted here yet” or something like that and figured it was a nice summary of the situation so i posted it here.
Does this take into account that Twitter’s new CEO has resumed paying Google? I can see that maybe the tumult could have caused a lapse in the contract until a new arrangement is finalized, but that’s just speculation.
as much as i hate elon musk tho, it is a sort of reasonable strategy in case you’re trying to prevent incurring further hosting charges while you’re migrating 🤷♀️
not sure why he can’t just pay the hosting bill but whatever, that’s secondary i guess
There is literally no reason to do it like that other than incompetence. Platform migrations, especially for something as large as Twitter, are incredibly large undertakings that need a lot of skilled people. All those skilled people have long continued their careers at other companies.
You don’t need to know how Twitter is run, that is simply IT and business management 102.

i don’t really understand how you can be so confident while knowing nothing or very little about running such an insanely complicated platform as twitter
I can’t believe people come to Lemmy of all places to defend Twitter and Musk. I’ve come here a month or so ago when the reddit news broke, but damn, it changed so much these past few days. I kind of already miss Lemmy as it was.
i’m assuming that cessation of twitter’s existence (due to lack of funds taken up by skyrocketing hosting bills) would be an even worse strategy for retaining users and maintaining desirable stock value
Do you have any proof that google’s rates are going up or are you just taking Elon at face value? Because if you are taking Elon at face value, I have some crypto to sell you.
So if you were moving to another home or apartment, is it a reasonable strategy to stop paying rent at your current home while you’re looking for a new place? Of course not. Same idea here.
if your current rent suddenly because very expensive, or you can’t afford the current rent bc you lost your job, then ye, it’s not a reasonable option, but the only option 🤷♀️
Ah yes, poor Elon is too poor to pay his bills. And Google must have suddenly increased the prices, it’s not like they have contracts to adhere to regarding those kinda things.
Musk is an idiot and his handling of Twitter is even more idiotic. But can we not use unsourced screenshots of note taking apps for this community? If there’s substantiated news, post a link to a decent source. If we allow these kinda posts just because we agree with them, we’re gonna be very vulnerable to misinformation (case in point: the fact that there’s articles saying that they resumed paying this bill).
