Linux video editing and Kdenlive tips and tricks for a returning user?
Just recently switched back to Linux after more than a decade away. (I’m currently running Mint Cinnamon if anyone is curious) On Windows I was using the free version of Davinci Resolve for all of my video editing. I quickly discovered that the free version of Resolve for Linux doesn’t support H.264/H.265 so after trying...

And I know we’re mostly atheists here, but please keep the theological discussion to a minimum and appreciate the lighthearted hypothetical scenario for what it is.
Kagi Reacts to Backlash
I don’t have a source but this is based on my membership in the Kagi Discord server. Kagi search has decided to allow people to opt out of Brave results being included in the results and may asking Brave for free API access so that they aren’t being supported. I’m still unsure about whether I’ll resubscribe to Kagi. I...
Why the data need to be copied in each instance?
Could not it be just like a embedded? or something that works like that?...
Why can't I see the discussion comments in a lemmy thread?
For some reason, I can’t see most of the discussion comments of posts but only a fraction - maybe 10% or less. What might be the reason? adblocks?
Are things broken? I know Lemmy 0.19 has some federation problems but it seems like more than that is broken for about the last week.
It seems like just recently, everything broke. Posts from some other instances (Lemmy 0.19 or kbin) aren’t showing up here reliably anymore, and then sometimes posts from a few days ago will suddenly show up. kbin.social has a banner talking about unusual “problems” without going into detail....

Understanding the purpose of Android Auto
I upgraded the head unit in my car recently. The head unit itself runs Android, and it supports Android Auto. So far, I’ve been using Android Auto via bluetooth, and it works great. I have no complaints....
What's a good co-op RTS for the Switch?
For backstory: My partner and I have been playing Super Mario Party so long that it’s gotten boring. They asked me what I wanted for my birthday (which is coming up), and I thought something like that would be cool. If X-COM 2 had a local co-op on the Switch, I’d do that, but is there something similar?
Calendar is missing events if the month has 31 days.
Has anyone ever seen this? I’m using the default Google calendar app and this is happening on my Pixel 5a and I just got a new Pixel 6a and it is still happening. I look at Month View on my calendar and there are no appointments on January 28th through Feb 3rd. Even if I click on those dates, there are no appointments. If I...

To those not in the IT industry, what do you think programming is like?
I’ve always been curious as to what “normal” people think programming is like. The wildest theory I’ve heard is “typing ones and zeroes” (I’m a software engineer)
Looking for a good tablet PC distro
I just inherited a handful of Samsung Series 7 Slate PCs that I’d like to rebuild to be as “tablet-like” as possible for a few non-technical friends and family. They power up but arrived with non-functional Windows 7 installs. They’re Intel Core i5s with 4G RAM and 128G SSDs, so they should run pretty well under any...
Game genres where "It's just more X content" is more than enough
We get a lot of sequels in the gaming world, and a common criticism is when a series isn’t really innovating enough. We’re given an open world game that takes 40 hours, with DLC stretching it out 20 more, and see a sequel releasing that cut out it’s late 30 hours because players were already getting bored....
Cloudstream equivalent for audiobooks?
I mostly do everything on my phone and I’ve found cloudstream satisfies my needs with a surprisingly negligible amount of effort. Is there something very much like that but for audiobooks (and possibly ebooks)?
Linux, networking and security books recommendations
Hi! I’m looking for some book recommendations on Linux, networking and security. I’d rather they were 3 separate books, instead of an All-in-one. I know I can learn about this on the internet, but this is kind of my way of reading books. Some like thrillers, I like learning about tech what can I say haha It’s not for...
