Not sure why everything was capitalised and in Portuguese when I’m using English at the moment.

Let’s extrapolate out from this mods behavior; what does their ideal government look like? Can their ideal government handle honest dissent from affected parties?

Why should anyone show respect to this type of human filth?

ThrowawayPermanente , to explainlikeimfive in ELI5: Why is cheating in online games seemingly so prevelant?

Sportsmanship is dead, also some people who don’t have much else going on in their lives base what little self esteem they have on being good at video games and are desperate to maintain the idea they have of themselves as winners.

sportsmanship is dead

I’ve seen fighting game players who won’t throw a single punch until they know both players are ready. What kind of games do you play?

Which one? I’ve exclusively heard bad things about League for being a cesspool of toxicity. HOTS seems more chill though.

computergeek125 ,

As a former League player i felt kind of like that back then - a lot of people were just not nice people. I think some of that comes down to how certain PVP players are motivated insofar as personal agency - they want to be the high carry, they want to be why things won the way they did.

I saw that too in Overwatch 2 when that first came out with the rebalance to 5v5: suddenly everything was about personal agency and Blizzard decided that the game balance should favor that over strong teamwork (IMHO).

For me, that’s why I got out of those two games and only play when I have nearly a full team of preexisting friends. I was always more focused on trying to get the team to the finish as a whole (maybe that comes from ending up as a support main).

Ended up finding my vibe in FF14 PvE, where everyone tends to work together better. That’s not to say there aren’t bad apples and problem children in a game that has minimal anticheat, but on average I feel like I see it a lot less - and fewer people who swear you out for just learning something new, where the general populace will often take time out of their own schedule just to help people along or explain something tough.

Sportsmanship isn’t dead, it may just not be where you’re looking.

Something isn’t dead just because it isn’t universal.

for me, it was discoverability. Like, several guides said “use tags” but 4 out of 5 people DON"T. And more often than not, when you do search the tags, you see several posts that aren’t what you wanted at all. Or worse, the tag you search doesn’t have any posts newer than several months to a year. Basically it relied on an honor system where few people had honor.

Pop!_OS This was a good idea for a new game I have a few ideas on what I would do if it were a new one.

dianyxx , to asklemmy in What is an achievement in life that you're proud of?

I've not been to jail or prison in my life. Someone at one time or another has ran afoul with the law and broken justice system. I on the other hand, haven't. Granted, there's things I know that I did that would've seen me at least serve a handful of years but I hadn't been charged and the statue of limitations have long fallen off so I can't be touched anyways.

All I've ever gotten in my life is just traffic violations that I had to pay for, that's it. But no prison time for me.

blackwateropeth , (edited ) to games in Does AAAA just mean awful triple A games now?

I mean, the only AAAA game, as called by Ubisofts CEO, was complete dogshit. So technically all AAAA games are bad :)

I think most of us have a good idea of the benefits and drawbacks of Linux/Windows/Apple.

I have a Windows machine for media production, because Linux doesn’t support all the software I need for media production. I use Linux for absolutely everything else, because it’s better for literally everything else. In truth, a MacBook Pro would be better for media production but they’re too expensive.

thejevans ,
@thejevans@lemmy.ml avatar

To be pedantic (but I think it matters): it’s the software companies that don’t support Linux, not the other way around.

wuphysics87 OP ,

More than pedantic. It’s truth reversed to conceal motives.

dianyxx , to asklemmy in What is your take on youtubers looking at multiple cameras on their videos ?

They're trying too hard to seem like they're filmmakers when all that they're doing is just doing the bare minimum possible for YouTube content.

It's about as bad as TikTok people thinking they're actors or singers with all of that lip-syncing they do.

Tippon , to linux in Is Linux As Good As We Think It Is?

Linux is obviously very good, but you are right, we give Linux a pass sometimes because we ‘build’ it. We tend to overlook its flaws because we want it to be better than the competition.

I’ve recently had an upgrade fail to the point of a reinstall, a folder that I can’t share between two users on the same laptop, and shutdown buttons on two computers that disappeared. If those problems happened on Windows, I’d be really annoyed, but because they happened on Linux, I just fixed them and carried on.

We’ve been having this discussion in the group I game/ play TTRPGs with. Like 7 of us total all windows, me and another switched to Linux, a third is a computational scientist who is forced to work with redhat frequently, and a fourth member was thinking of switching. After me and member 2 switched, member 4 saw that we had problems (entirely discord for me, all games have honestly worked so far) and changed his mind about switching because he doesn’t want to deal with stuff not working OOTB.

I can’t fault people who want that, hell I do, Linux is well worth it to me but I will begrudgingly admit there are draw backs to Linux.
