Isles of Etherion? It’s probably even more demanding though.

  1. Check if poonos is still attached
  2. If no ponoos detected, it might be a hardware problem.
  3. If ponnos is detected, then it is a firmware problem
  4. Have you ever tried not using your pponos?

For me, not a loyalty but a reputation. With some brands you have to do a very very deep research to find out if given model is good for you, and still can be surprised in a bad way after a purchase. Others brands are safe choose for 90% of the things and you need to decide for few key parameters only.

And software update speed and quality of course.

Toadvark , to youshouldknow in YSK: How to Budget
@Toadvark@mander.xyz avatar

I’ve never been able to budget in the literal sense due to how utterly unpredictable my income is (artist sole proprietor kind of thing- don’t do it, kids!), and how wildly the structure of my months vary…but getting wise to tracking all incoming and outgoing transactions on my own spreadsheet has brought such peace of mind.

It came naturally after dealing with self employment income records, so it’s frankly silly that I never applied the same ideas to my personal finances.

zxo , to android in Discussion: Brand Loyalty vs. Exploring New Brands

I’ve been enjoying my Pixel 5a as of late, but I would switch in a heartbeat if another OEM offered a product that’s better for me. Brand loyalty doesn’t make that much sense in my opinion, what does is looking for the best product for you.

Im28xwa , to android in Discussion: Brand Loyalty vs. Exploring New Brands

I check all the available options and choose the one that meets most of my requirements regardless of the brand, this is what everyone should do

backhdlp , to linux in What portable utilities do you carry with you.
@backhdlp@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I usually just carry around a few ISOs with Ventoy. More specifically, a Win10 ISO, Ubuntu ISO, Arch ISO, Tails (not iso but who cares), and a few others that I wanna be able to install if I ruin my current system to the point I can’t boot it properly. I just noticed I still need a Fedora ISO. After watching the LTT video too, I’m looking into all of those cool utilities too, don’t have any recommendations yet tho.

shirro , (edited ) to linux in System76 or Framework laptop?

I bought a Framework DIY. I live in regional Australia and being able to order parts to install myself and extend the longevity of my system was decisive. The Framework was a compromise on specs and wasn’t my first choice but nothing compares for sustainability and serviceability. I sourced ram and nvme locally and installed Arch.

System76 are a bit of a fantasy for me. I looked at them for years but I don’t want to pay a premium then deal with international RMA on a rebadged Clevo. I always bought whatever looked good in locally available Windows laptops instead before Framework.

Now I am in the ecosystem I very selfishly want Framework to succeed and guarantee my access to upgrades and parts. I respect System76’s mission and understand why people would wish to support them, particularly when their own laptop designs start shipping. System76’s focus on North America and dependence on white box laptops hasn’t delivered as well in my opinion, at least for my needs.

System76 have tried hard to improve openness and repairability but their laptops are still disposable at end of life while Framework have made a huge leap with upgradability that has the potential to reduce ewaste and I want to see how far that model can be pushed.

degrix , to nostupidquestions in If my home instance defederated from another, can I still post to the other instance? What about posting to an instance which has been defederated from my home instance?
@degrix@lemmy.hqueue.dev avatar

If an instance is defederated with another instance that all content in and out is ignored after the point at which instances defederated. So, in this example, you might see old lemmygrad.ml posts in your lemmy.world instance. If you comment on one of those posts, only other lemmy.world users will see it, meanwhile none of the lemmygrad.ml users will see it. Likewise, none of comments/posts that have happened after the instance defederated will appear on lemmy.world.

It’s akin to having a conference call/speaker phone conversation. Everyone in your room can hear and speak. Likewise everyone in the other room can hear and chat too. When the call drops (defederates), each room can continue having conversations on what they were just talking about but neither room has any clue about the other’s conversations.

andrewta ,

That last paragraph nicely explains it. I was a little confused on how it all worked

BlackPenguins ,

That is a beautiful analogy. And the people in the room can talk more about a previous topic when they were all talking together but the other side will never know about those new details (commenting on old posts).

Botree ,
@Botree@lemmy.world avatar

Does that mean that all the posts and comments from said instance prior to defederation will still be visible in the home instance?

kjpctech ,

I too am curious about this. Does each instance have its own copy of the data from the other instances? How does it stay in sync?

degrix ,
@degrix@lemmy.hqueue.dev avatar

Each instance has a copy. There are a couple of ways to backfill information, but in general any communication that happens gets broadcast out to every instance that’s subscribed. If an instance is offline or otherwise unavailable (like it’s defederated), then that instance will not get that message and will be slightly out of sync. It’s this semi-sync nature that also makes it so that anything posted likely exists somewhere even after you delete because nothing guarantees that every instance will get the delete message.

degrix ,
@degrix@lemmy.hqueue.dev avatar

Yes. Defederating - at least right now - only stops the communication (hangs up the phone). Any existing posts/comments will still be present.
