motsu , to assholedesign in Oil draining over the hot exhaust? Sounds good guys, let's sign it off and start production!

Doesn’t help for this (or the next) oil change… But look into a fujimoto drain plug. Its a mini ball valve that is spring loaded (so you have to press the leaver up before you can turn it… Also has a 2nd safety in the form of a plastic clip that prevents it from being pressed up). Makes oil changes so easy. For your bike, it might still be too recessed, but the valve has a hose barb on it too so you can direct the oil into the drain pan

quinkin ,

Fumoto, but yes.

CADmonkey ,

I like the fumoto valves for another reason - if tou have an aluminum oil pan, the valve will keep you from wearing out the threads.

thepianistfroggollum ,

I like not having to have to use a jack to get enough clearance to use a wrench.

thepianistfroggollum ,

I’m 100% buying another fumoto valve when my free oil change plan is up. I never even had to jack up my old car to change its oil.

My one complaint was that without seeing the valve, it’s super hard to remember which way you push and which way to turn. Not fun to figure out when your oil is at highway temps and you’re fumbling around between hot parts with a glove that’s getting hotter and hotter.

But that’s mostly because I’m stubborn.

Seen a lot of complaints about these thing leaking over time in the car communities. No experience myself, but may be something to keep in mind, especially of you end up laying the bike over.

luthis OP ,

I’ve noticed mine is leaking, even though I torqued the drain cap exactly to spec. Maybe it needs a washer or something.

mang0bus , to foodporn in Italian hot sausage with peppers and onions. An all-time carny food favorite of mine!

Honestly, what the fuck. You can make this so so good. You can:

  • sear the Italian sausage and use the residual fat to sweat the peppers and onion
  • deglaze the pan with some dry red wine (one for the food, one for your tum tum)
  • put the entire pot (I do every step in Dutch oven, enameled cast iron) in the oven and bake for 45min
  • season to taste, schlup it into a bun (handmade if possible) and call it a day.

Not that this is a bad meal, but a bit of a time and love will go a long way.

turtlepower OP ,

She did everything but the pan deglase and bake the buns herself, although they are actual Italian rolls made at a local Italian bakery. She didn’t use a Dutch oven because she was trying to recreate the style of flavor found in the stuff slung at your local carnival/fair/amusement park, which is cooked on those giant flat iron grills. She did cook the veggies along side the sausage, but drained most of the oil and grease because we’re older and try to look after our health.

mang0bus ,

Flat iron grill like a Blackstone? NA here don’t really use that to cook personally. Smart draining the extra fat though! Cheers! Hit me up if ever you want to recipe share.

You can watch your dog run away for 3 days.

    Track_Shovel ,

Saskatchewan is mostly hummocky, though, since it’s surgical geology is primarily glacial till. Not a pile of topography, but definitely not flat.

South central Manitoba on the other hand? Former glacial Lake Agassiz basin. So flat, you can watch your dog run away, fall in love with another dog in Steinbach, and raise a family

You’ll hear Canadians say something about a “northern” city in their province and you go to look it up and it’s only like 1/3rd of the way up.

I don’t know what CoColchi is but I’ll Google. The spoon looks like a normal spoon tho 😂what’s so special about the spoon?

    turtlepower OP ,

The full name is CoCo Ichibanya. It’s a Japanese curry restaurant chain. If you look closely at the handle it has their imprint on it!

    Spliffman1 ,
    @Spliffman1@lemmy.world avatar

Ooooh I see now, got it, you stole a spoon 😉

    turtlepower OP ,

Nope! Our’s were purchased. You can get them on Amazon. That being said, I had one that I had actually swiped from the location that was near where I was stationed in the Navy, but I lost it years ago. I felt bad about doing it, but they didn’t sell them at that time, and I was young and stupid because I spoke Japanese and probably could have asked the guys that ran it instead of just taking it. I ate there almost every day when my ship wasn’t underway, so they ALL knew and liked me. They probably would have just given it to me. I guess I kind of made up for it by buying two later on? I hope the curry gods have mercy on me.

Hahaha OK I live in Bermuda but I have traveled to the States a lot, but I never heard of them… Is it a West Coast thing?

    turtlepower OP ,

That’s so cool. What’s it like there? My dad and step-mum went there on their honeymoon, but they only saw it from a tourist’s perspective.

It’s a Japan thing! I believe they also have locations in Hawaii. I was stationed in Japan when I was in the Navy and CoCoIchi locations are like McDonald’s level there. I ate there almost every day (sometimes twice!).

    Spliffman1 ,
    @Spliffman1@lemmy.world avatar

Bermuda is wonderfully beautiful, but painfully small… So you get what we call rock fever, just have to travel, get off the rock

    turtlepower OP ,

Ha! I can imagine. Must be like living in a small town with no way to get away from it. I hope your experiences in the US were good. I’m so disappointed in and ashamed of my country. We should be better than, well, this [gestures around].

KumaLumaJuma , to foodporn in Perfect recreation of CoCoIchi chicken catsu, cheese mix curry.

Recipe? I still miss it and I left Japan 10 years ago!! 😱

    turtlepower OP ,

It’s super simple. Just get Golden Curry curry roux (we use Hot) and use panko to bread the chicken. The cheese is just shredded cheddar. Tastes just like CoCoIchi. If you don’t have an Asian market nearby, you can get the roux online!

    KumaLumaJuma ,

That is indeed simple, I don’t know if I have a market near me but I’m going into London tomorrow anyway, I’m sure I can find some while I’m down there

Oh yeah, I forgot to say, only 10 years? I left in '03. Sadly haven’t been able to afford to go back. I should have stayed, but then I wouldn’t have met the love of my life. (And I don’t just say that because she cooks things that make my taste buds think sexy thoughts, too.)

    KumaLumaJuma ,

I left in 2013, I also haven’t gone back but it’s definitely on my list.

Really loved it, lovely people and the food is obviously epic! Were you mainland?

    turtlepower OP ,

Yokosuka! I spent a lot of time in Kamakura. Got to go to several sake-blessing festivals there. We made port in quite a few different places- I’ve been to the ice festival in Hokkaido, been to Sasebo a few times, a girl I I dated at the time took me to the onsen in Hakone, visited Ramen Amusement in Shin-Yokohama, and visited Peace Park in Hiroshima. Such a beautiful country with many lovely people and insanely good food. Like I always told the people I met there: 俺は外人、でも心は日本人。
