Here we have men going infertile, whereas in the movie it is the women. Yes, they could follow, certainly. Placentas might not be viable because of all the microplastics, or something. I don’t know as I am no babyologist.
The human testicles had been preserved and so their sperm count could not be measured. However, the sperm count in the dogs’ testes could be assessed and was lower in samples with higher contamination with PVC. The study demonstrates a correlation but further research is needed to prove microplastics cause sperm counts to fall.
The testes analysed were obtained from postmortems in 2016, with the men ranging in age from 16 to 88 when they died. “The impact on the younger generation might be more concerning” now that there is more plastic than ever in the environment, Yu said.
The study, published in the journal Toxicological Sciences, involved dissolving the tissue samples and then analysing the plastic that remained. The dogs’ testes were obtained from veterinary practices that conducted neutering operations.
The human testicles had a plastic concentration almost three times higher than that found in the dog testes: 330 micrograms per gram of tissue compared with 123 micrograms. Polyethylene, used in plastic bags and bottles, was the most common microplastic found, followed by PVC.
The Guardian reported the dogs were from neutering operations and the humans from postmortem exams. Dogs get fed garbage meat meal but it’s packaged largely in paper bags, metal tins, or only the big bag is plastic. Human food is often kept in plastic at every step and often heated in plastic too.
Ans let’s remember our friends at McDonnell-Douglas and Raytheon, huh? Record profits, people! Unprecedented geopolitical instability market opportunities!
So go on, get those microplastics in yer junk! Get ‘em in there! That’s right! We got maybe six years tops before this whole planet goes tits up, let’s move! Always Be Closing!
The ‘red flag’ of our consumptive lifestyles, they have reached the limits of the Earth - from the Mariana Trench to the tip of Mount Everest.
These tiny particles of decomposed plastic have seeped into clouds, and been found buried in archaeological remains believed to be ‘pristine’.
“The ubiquitous existence of microplastics and nanoplastics raises concerns about their potential impact on the human reproductive system,” the study, published in the journal Toxicological Sciences, states.
Sperm counts in western men have more than halved in the last few decades, with air pollution and exposure to pesticides frequently cited as factors.
“At the beginning, I doubted whether microplastics could penetrate the reproductive system,” Prof Xiaozhong Yu, one of the authors of the new study told the UK’s Guardian newspaper.
A smaller study in China last year also found microplastics in six human testes and 30 semen samples.

China has launched an “anti-dumping” investigation into chemical imports, in what appears to be a response to trade barriers introduced by the EU, the US and other countries.
Last Tuesday, Washington announced sharp tariff increases on Chinese goods, including computer chips and solar panels.
US President Joe Biden has imposed a border tax of 100% on electric vehicles, quadrupling the previous charge.
Other probes concern Chinese electric vehicles, solar panels, wind turbines, and medical devices.
In response to Sunday’s announcement, the Commission said it would carefully study the contents of the Chinese investigation before deciding how to proceed.
“We expect China to ensure that this investigation is fully in line with all relevant World Trade Organization rules and obligations,” a spokesperson said.

“Northern Europe” but Belgium/France/Germany. Welp, I guess the Nordics don’t exist.
To be fair though, there are also about to be some severe floods in Lapland quite soon, albeit for a completely different reason: exceptionally warm spring weather melts the snow faster than usual causing rivers to flood.
“Northern Europe” but Belgium/France/Germany. Welp, I guess the Nordics don’t exist.
I came to ask if Belgium was Northern Europe what are the Nordic countries called? I am from the states and cannot find most European countries on a map.
The Northern Europe.
Because Belgium and the other countries mentioned are not in Northern Europe.
At best they can be said to be in the north of continental europe, and even there you got people who would argue that term includes Scandinavia and you are back to square one.
That’s a good thing imo. We do this so we can build up an industry for these things at home. That’s an important long term goal, too. If the last years have shown us anything it’s that being solely dependent on another state for certain critical stuff is a bad idea. And I’d say this is especially true for China.
I largely welcome restricting massproduced mobile surveillance machines made by a chinese hq’d company. Don’t misunderstand me I hate teslas too for this, but we don’t need more of this shit.
That’s what 2°C warming looks like. That part of Europe is warming faster than the rest of the world so they get a preview. It means this will be coming to the rest of the world in a few years.
