A few months ago I was tasked with translating a script from one IBM emulator program to another because the owners of the first program wouldn’t respond to requests to purchase a new license.
The scripting language used on both was unique to the software, and the documentation was basically non-existent. Plus, the script was written over a decade ago, and the guy who wrote it was long gone.
For weeks I banged my head against the wall trying to figure out the logic flow before I realized that it was essentially BASIC, which I haven’t touched in over 20 years.
I started my programming career with Turbo Basic and Visual Basic 3. The one thing missing from these languages that makes me wonder how the hell I did anything at all is classes. I vaguely remember using arrays for all sorts of weird shit but that’s it.
Though since this is specifically about being an admin and not just an editor on Wikipedia, is this necessarily an issue? A lot of admin activity has become automated since those early days, so you don't need as many people to deal with vandalism or other forms of backlogs.
The Film was good. Well told old type of Story, through there was no “catharsis”, the ending was kinda meh.
I can guess why it ended the way it did but still felt a bit like a downer.
The cinematohraphy, the music and the sounds were really good to amazing. The editing during the boarding part was wonky, but once the Crew was on the ship it was good.
The production was really good. I wish the lotr, wot, one piece and other big streaming Shows could Look this good.
The acting was fine. The captain and the first mate were the best, I know them from other movies and they seem to be the most experienced.
Something I was wondering, what was the young guy afraid of at the very beginning. There shouldnt be anything really disturbing left on the ship.
I saw it. Overall I liked it. I’ve been a turtles fan my entire life. It felt like a bunch of turtles fans said let’s make the turtles and lets make them 2023. Of course they changed some stuff but I can’t really clutch my pearls because it’s very clear they love the franchise.
Overall loved the animation, soundtrack, and Ice Cube. I laughed quite a bit in the theater watching this. Solid 7/10 movie and I can see a lot of kids thinking these turtles are as cool as I thought the 80’s turtles were.
These users also have decided not to use one of the many other Linux distributions.
This is what I’ve been saying in the other thread. The cottage industry of source-rebuild distributions keep RedHat as a de facto standard for enterprise, and RedHat is stating the users of those rebuilds as lost revenue driving their decisions here. So we should move on to other distributions that aren’t underpinned on being compatible with RedHat.
In the lost media community there is a distinction between things that are known to be lost forever (baring some miracle) and things that may still exist but either no known copies have been found or the owner refuses to release a digital copy (usually due to copyright reasons). For example most of the early seasons of Doctor Who were lost due to the BBCs policy but over the years copies of the film and even some rudimentary at home recordings have been found, allowing for them to be archived and preserved
ehh, it depends a lot on the individual; there’s a lot more scope for interpretation in Islam depending on both religious and cultural variations.
Islamic slaughter follows the same basic method - must die from blood loss, etc - but the prayers said over the animal while this happens are different, and some people consider this significant. Also some people consider certain kinds of shellfish haram, while others consider anything that lives in the water to be completely exempt, etc.
Halal has vastly simpler and more livable-with rules than kosher, and while (apart from alcohol) kosher food is a subset of things that can be halal, it’s not always the case that they’re a subset of things that are halal.
