This is some crazy clickbait. The researchers themselves say that it wasn’t a likely scenario and was more of a mistake than anything. This is some more round peg square hole nonsense. We already have models for predicting stock prices and doing sentiment analysis. We don’t need to drag language models into this.
The statements about training honestly being harder than helpfulness is also silly. You can train a model to act however you want. Full training isn’t really even necessary. Just adding info about the assistant character being honest and transparent in the system context would have probably have made it acknowledge the trade or not make it in the first place.
I’m not interested in their games either, my issue with it is that a lot of people are, and MS is trying their hardest to get a monopoly in the industry and/or turn everything into streaming-only subscription crap
That’s not what I meant and you’re literally wrong lol, incredible games are made every year. My problem with this is that Microsoft is trying to turn gaming into its corporate cloud-only monopoly.
Good games are still made, but the top shops, with respect to size and funding have priorities that aren’t aligned directly with enjoyment and story telling. There is a lot of requirement to be online, gambling addiction based mechanics, unfinished releases, MRR goals, and strong arm tactics by publishers for platform exclusivity. Perhaps I am literally wrong about my view, but it is my opinion nevertheless; wasn’t trying to start a debate.
User satisfaction is regularly an afterthought to profit, as is expected in capitalism but not always ideal for the consumer. And less competition doesn’t help.
It’s never been a better time to be a gamer. Fantastic games are a dime a dozen and consoles have never been nearly as powerful for low end games. It’s a fantastic time to be gaming.
Except Microsoft is building up a monopoly on gaming, buying what they can, consolidating its properties so they can then transition to a streaming-only model where nobody owns anything (I know you don’t technically “own” the games you buy either but at least you can have them on physical media to keep, back up or sell) and the only way to play anything is to pay a monthly subscription fee and to use only what Microsoft allows you to use (i.e. no more Linux gaming)
I don’t exclusively mean piracy, but also piracy isn’t theft because you’re not taking anything away from anyone, you’re making a copy of some files 🤷♀️
The notion that piracy is theft is capitalist bullshit designed to manipulate people’s emotions by equating a company not making as much profits as they theoretically could have to theft lol
Eh, I’m of the opinion when the old giants get stale or acquired into a grand corporate strategy new studios will spring up to fill the vacancy in the market.
Title is irresponsible. It produces no ionizing radiation which is what the layman understands by the word radiation.
It produces 1.75 watts per kg over the standard. There is no reason to believe this has any effect whatsoever. it’s not clear that the standard is based on anything meaningful whatsoever
At the same time, Grey Zone reported that a second business jet owned by Prigozhin had landed safely in the Moscow region.
Perhaps not gone.
However from memory they shot down some air force stuff on their way up during the mini mutiny, so I could see the Russian Air Force having it out for him.
Ecuador’s murder rate has surged as local gangs have forged alliances with international crime cartels.
Former president Rafael Correa, who founded the Citizen Revolution Party, wrote: "They murdered another of our colleagues in Esmeraldas.
Police have not yet officially commented on the murder but local media reported that the two gunmen had fled on a motorbike after shooting dead Mr Briones in San Mateo, south of the city of Esmeraldas.
Last month, the mayor of the port city of Manta in Manabí province was shot dead as he was inspecting a public works project.
The highest-profile victim so far has been Fernando Villavicencio, an outspoken journalist who had uncovered corruption scandals and denounced links between organised crime and government officials.
FBI agents arrived in the country from the US on Sunday and have joined forces with Ecuadorean police to investigate Fernando Villavicencio’s murder.
“We pick up remains and they fall apart,” said Maui County police chief John Pelletier on Saturday, four days after a massive wildfire tore downhill through dry brush and grass and engulfed the island’s western edge.
Dozens of survivors shared their stories of escape and loss with the BBC, helping to piece together a more complete picture of the tragedy that unfolded on Tuesday, when fires moving at a mile per minute consumed the town.
One thing seemed to unite their accounts: residents say they had no official warning before they fled for their lives, raising painful questions about the effectiveness of the emergency response and whether more people could have been saved.
For Tee Dang, a tourist from Kansas, the first clue that her vacation had taken a deadly turn came in the form of an Airbnb host barrelling past her door and telling her family to run.
At 4:29pm, Maui’s emergency management agency had publicly announced perhaps its first evacuation order, writing on X (formerly known as Twitter) that residents of Kelawea Mauka, a neighbourhood on the edge of Lahaina, needed to leave.
Residents like Lynette “Pinky” Johnson loaded their cars with as many as could fit, before driving eastward along the Honoapiilani Highway - the only viable route to safety - as flames lapped at their wheels.
What are the odds that muons are more sensitive to neutrino interaction and this is what the scientists are seeing? Muons are pretty massive, after all, and neutrinos are literally everywhere. Obligatory: "billions of neutrinos pass through you every second".
Muons are leptons like neutrinos and their electron cousins, and we already know that electrons can be boosted by the occasional neutrino interaction. A free muon in a magnetic field has nowhere to be boosted to, so, coupled with a hypothetically higher chance of interacting with a neutrino, I'd expect something to happen when it does, though not exactly what.
I figure we don't already use muons in neutrino detectors because they don't last very long (about a second) before decaying, and the only way to get them to last longer is to accelerate them to a decent fraction of the speed of light. That way, from our reference frame they can last minutes or more. That's going to be energy-hungry compared to the passive detectors we have.
i.e. the passive detectors which take advantage of the aforementioned electron / atom interaction.
The BBC is actively transphobic, and regularly publishes transphobic content that stirs up hate. Given that I admin two trans heavy instances, I won’t be federating with them
I’ve also been looking. I see other websites complaining, but I want to see actual BBC content that’s inflamatory etc, as I can’t find anything. It must exist, but so far, can’t find it.
Well honestly, if it can’t be sourced, is it even true? I’m all for burning a media outlet at the stake. But, I’d want to see evidence first. If it can’t be found, it’s not true for all intent and purpose.
There are links to various articles about it in this discussion tree. You’re either not looking hard for sources, or you’re being disingenuous. I hope it’s the former, but experience tells me it’s the latter.
Aside from the symbolic action (that can only be seen by looking for what isn’t there), what does this accomplish? (And yes, I do note that the symbolic action is important in of itself).
Alternatively, if I wanted to follow @[email protected] in Lemmy (universeodon is a Mastodon instance), how can I get him in my timeline?
As far as I can tell, removing a mastodon instance (in this case social.bbc) from from linked instances in Lemmy has absolutely no impact on what someone will see in subscribed, local, or federated timelines.
I admin a lemmy instance and a regular fediverse instance, both of which are focused towards the queer and gender diverse communities. Blocking transphobia from the feeds of trans folk isn’t symbolic, even though it’s less relevant on lemmy
Ok but not everything revolves around trans people’s issues. Can we be glad for a positive development for once, or will we remove everything that does not 100% agree with our view of the world from the fediverse?
Defederating isn’t irrational, it’s not a matter of personal beliefs it’s a matter of actual people’s lives and being allowed to express themselves. Going against that is inhumane and anyone that does it should be held accountable for their actions. Despite that, mainstream attention direcred towards the fediverse is a positive advancement.
Link is broken. What I am trying to say is that megafires are pretty much the norm in south of spain, Sicily, Sardinia, greece. They are endemic there. Rhese regions have always had to strictly control on the territory because of such fire. What is happening there is that ongoing economical crisis, that is getting worse, there is no money for such a strict territorial control. But those places were already a bbqs ready to light. Now governments are poorer to prevent and interviene properly.
The main problem of climate changes is that it is extending north the region where these fires happen. Up to places previously unheard such as switzerland! That is the real proof that something bad is going on.
In the past, in south of Italy only Sardinia Sicily and Calabria were BBQs in summer. Now even places northern than that have become at high risk.

The entire executive suite should all be arrested for financing terrorist operations in Ukraine. Replace them with people who will cut operations with Russia!
Well the company’s yearly revenue is more than that of Ukraine, so they might as well field an army and join up. Although knowing them they might join the wrong side…
