Oh god, proper old top gear! What a show that was. Even the new grand tour “specials” don’t quite capture the spirit.

Best interview I have ever seen RIP youtu.be/kOqS2jZdaoI?si=9dzs1Tt9DOcBsdul

I had forgotten about this interview.

JC: Oh no, we’ve killed the singing detective! MG: Bout time someone did.

Also love the “it made my eyes water” bit.

RIP

“And if he really committed crimes as heinous as those he is accused of, I wonder how he can continue to be a priest with that weight on his conscience,” - that’s what people have to get: it’s not that they’re in organized religion despite they did horrible things, they are in it BECAUSE they did it. They feel protected and righteous, all the time. We have to end this. The real monsters are always right behind the so-called prophets to organize everything.

mateomaui , to ukcasual in Tea purists divided over new 60-second brew

imo, in regards to the apparent 85% who normally steep for 1 minute, that would be a weak-ass cup of tea.

Oneeightnine ,
@Oneeightnine@feddit.uk avatar

Not sure why I remember this, but around 17 years ago I watched a BBC show about the history of Tea and IIRC the Dutch think we’re all crazy for drinking our tea when it’s hot. They also advocate for a bare minimum of two minutes brewing.

I’m usually a solid 3 minute sort of guy. I’m a rockstar like that.

mateomaui ,

I agree with the Dutch. Some teas I’m at 4-5 mins, remove the bag, then forget about it for 10-30 mins at which point it’s cool enough that I can drink without negotiation.

sunbytes ,

They also use a LOT less actual tea.

And re use the bag over and over and over.

It’s more like “water what is also orange” by the end

iMike , to technology in France halts iPhone 12 sales over radiation levels

I bought iPhone 12 when it came out but returned it due to having yellow screen issues which have never been fixed. I bought 11 pro instead as it actually takes better pictures than the 12. I knew something was wrong with that phone 😅

balder1991 ,

Ever since I saw camera reviews online I crossed the 12 out from my options. The 11 (and 13) pictures were considered better and more color accurate in most blind test reviews.

I suppose there isn’t yet videos with camera comparisons, but this one has some good information about the 15 Pro.

I smell a class action lawsuit

lustrum ,

Not sure. The EU legal systems are different to the US. You can’t just sue for millions of damges willy nilly you’d need to display how you’ve been out of pocket by some value and then sue for that. This kind of thing is very hard to put a finger on, also if apple update and/or recall the devices there is nothing to be wronged for (assuming they give refunds, updates, replacements).

I’m assuming in the US you can just sue apple for the fact it was above the limit and gain damages even when it’s had no measurable impact on you?

orclev ,

Sure, you can sue for damages which is…

checks notes

Nothing apparently, this is completely safe.

BBC abuses the hell out of that feature. They’ve pinged phones for much less than this in the past.

StringTheory , (edited ) to news in Scientists grow whole model of human embryo, without sperm or egg

I don’t understand how it is more ethical to create an embryo from a stem cell than to create one from a sperm and egg. Both are viable, neither is a person. How are they different?

(Keeping the stem cell version in vitro past the the age when it would need to implant isn’t really a solution/distinction because we can do the same thing with a sperm-and-egg version.)

Because it will be in the Constitution and therefore legally binding. Racists can be charged, as they should be.
