I’ve always thought the way to solve this problem would be to make a law saying that the funding for the public defender’s office must equal or exceed the funding for the prosecutor’s office.
How about just saying the one who loses pays for both? There’s way too many people who suffer from judicial murder in the US. Public defenders will tell their clients “you can’t afford to win the case, so plea guilty for a quicker sentencing.”
