Hey, y’all! Just another random, loudmouthed, opinionated, Southern-fried nerdy American living abroad.

I’m moving off kbin to lemmy, so I won’t be posting from here (unless kbin social gets it together).

I almost never use Facebook anymore because whenever I’m on it, all I see are posts from groups I’m not even in, ads, videos, and interspersed in all that algorithmically chosen content, the occasional post from people I actually follow and know. Social media isn’t social any more.

Even fricking tumblr now has videos on it, and you can only shut “tumblr live” off for a week at most before they come back.

If you’re more angry at that than bomb threats against a school, you really need to work on your priorities, because that’s not what you should be focusing on.

It’s “racism” in the same way that all-women’s spaces are “sexist” against men.

Regardless, this is a discussion that does not belong here because it takes away from the actual issue at hand.

I used Twitter to contact Apple for tech support several times, and it was a good experience both times. This makes me sad, just because it feels like it’s Musk’s fault. I don’t blame Apple for separating from Twitter, but it feels like a good resource is gone.

It’s a touch trickier to upgrade a laptop, which the writer is talking about.

Kemp rejects talk of special session, says punishing Fani Willis carries risks (www.ajc.com)

During a remarkable press conference, Gov. Brian Kemp quashed the idea of a special legislative session pushed by former President Donald Trump and his allies to oust Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis after she charged them with a vast conspiracy to reverse his 2020 defeat.

I think that’s more it’s a headline that can be misinterpreted than misleading. I read it as it was detailed later, as worse at spotting kids and dark-skinned folks than at adults and light-skinned people. It can be ambiguous.

I’m sure that will be of great comfort to any dark-skinned person or child that gets hit.

If those are known, expected issues? Then they had better program around it before putting driverless cars out on the road where dark-skinned people and children are not theoreticals but realities.

Ok, but this isn’t just about Elon and Tesla?

The study examined eight AI-powered pedestrian detection systems used for autonomous driving research.

They tested multiple systems to see this problem.

More like programmers who didn’t consider putting in more folks that don’t look like them in the training datasets. Unconscious bias strikes again.

They’re still trying to get it to work and are working with Microsoft engineers, from the last I heard.

People are still hanging on to silly gamergate-era hate of Kotaku and get angry just seeing the name, and will go out of their way to argue why anything Kotaku says must be stupid and wrong. It’s wild.

The few times I post a Kotaku article, regardless of what it’s about, far too many folks just completely lose it screaming “click bait!” or completely blow off any points they might be making.

I was talking with a friend of mine who played the whole game last night, and they completely agreed with the idea that FF16 really had issues with how they handled slavery.

But oh wait, I forgot I can’t have an opinion because I didn’t play the game myself, as someone in here told me.

Please block me. I’d block you (actually, I will anyway), but blocking on kbin is busted and means you would still see and be able to comment on my posts. Hopefully they’ll fix that.

SF has an extremely lot violent crime rate, so what exactly do folks need guns like that for? The “high crime rate” is property crime, like theft. Unless folks want to be out here shooting people for smash and grabs.

San Francisco is an unusual city when it comes to crime

No, I really wasn’t sure if it was a weird power-play I’ve had folks online do where they THINK they’ve found out my real name and are are using it to throw me off.

And oh, bless your heart, you’re still trying. You have yourself some kinda day now.
