Hey, y’all! Just another random, loudmouthed, opinionated, Southern-fried nerdy American living abroad.

I’m moving off kbin to lemmy, so I won’t be posting from here (unless kbin social gets it together).

That’s apparently too difficult for some folks out there.

I don’t even know what that is - is a documentary or something?

Yeah, this feels more like extortion than bribery, from what the article said.

But I bet they aren’t going to pay their delivery drivers or warehouse workers more, though.

See, this is why I wish this game wasn’t currently PS5 exclusive and had come out on PC like they originally planned. I can’t say what story it seems like they wanted to tell just because unless I want to watch someone else play it, I can’t know. I couldn’t even read much of the article because I didn’t want to get too far into spoiler territory. It’s very frustrating because this seems like an interesting discussion to be had.

Thing is, and I haven’t played it either, but I know this from conversations I’ve seen about it, your character is a slave. Or, rather, is from the caste of people that is enslaved because they have magic. That means it’s something that can’t just be background, because it quite literally influences how everyone in the world interacts with Clive.

There was a really good Jimquisition on how being a “bearer” is treated in the world, and how SE just kind of overdid it with a lack of subtlety (jump to about the 4 minute mark to start, because there’s a lot of faff at the beginning before the video starts talking about the game). https://youtu.be/sgjqXTvHaLk?si=9EQqqsA4x2HEOmqc

Wait, why is this dude being charged with bribery when:

Following a two-year investigation, the DA’s office discovered that the two sheriffs were deliberately “refusing to release [the CCW licenses] until the applicants gave something of value.”

Unless I’m missing something, the problem is with these two sheriffs acting illegally. Were they brought up on charges for soliciting a bribe or what?

Art is “political.” It’s not being “made political” if the game brings up a heavy topic and then blinks. The game made itself “political” by making slavery an element of the world.

Yeah, but the issue is using that particular example in a post talking about police.

Also, as a Black American, it’s really tiring when we and discrimination against us get pulled out to use as examples. Like, just keep us out of it some times.

stopthatgirl7 , to worldnews in Climate change has ravaged India’s rice stock. Now its export ban could deepen a global food crisis
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

I can completely understand why India has made the choice to ban rice exports, because they’ve got to put their first priority on keeping their own people fed. But it’s making the whole global food situation worse.

I keep having this sinking feeling we’re going to experience something like the Bronze Age Collapse - part of the reason all the Bronze Age societies collapsed so suddenly wasn’t just the Sea People, it was that they were all so interconnected trade-wise that when one society collapsed, all of them did because supply chain links snapped. I feel like climate change is our current-day “Sea People,” only so much worse.

stopthatgirl7 , to news in Hong Kong Cantonese-language advocacy group closes after China's national security police raid founder’s home
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

That really sucks. Mainland China is really pushing for Mandarin to be the main language, or at least the prestige language, used in China, even though there are so many languages there. Cantonese has its own rich linguistic history. But cracking down on Cantonese advocacy groups is one way Beijing is going to make Hong Kong just like the rest of China.
