YES!

When I learned the deal for writers, I concluded that publishers offered me nothing. The printing press is democraticized to such an extent I don't need to sign away rights forever just to print a book. I can pay an editor and an artist directly.

They don't even really do marketing for you. They just say, "here's $500 your book sales has to pay back. Book yourself at a festival or a library."
