It has been so long since I've been here. But I'm looking forward to reintegrating into the platform and finding my/new people. Are we still saying ?

How did the 1960s to 1990s publication, the famed Whole Earth Catalog of , have strong undercurrents of hype & libertarianism? All 20,000+ pages NOW are ONLINE free as high res scans.

It reflected & reinforced the "California Ideology" we see today in Silicon Valley innovation & solutionism!

An amazing, visually striking online resource to either casually peruse or to analyze!

@JustCodeCulture @histodons @sociology It's a brilliant archive. I've already set it as a potential project for final year undergrad students. Will be interested to see if any of them pick it up - and what they make of it.

I'm looking for literature on the relationship between concepts of 'sustainability' and 'sustainable development' and local practices in the Global South and/or indigenous communities in the Global North (e.g. First Nations).

Specifically, I'd like to know how 'sustainability' is defined; what forms of knowledge are privileged; and how local practices are described by outsiders (& vice versa).

All suggestions welcome!

@gscumming @histodons This is brilliant - these are exactly the themes that I'm interested in. Thanks a million.

Just being a newbie in writing for academic journals, how bad is it if reviewer 1 is like "great idea, well written, but x,y,z need some more attention", reviewer 3 is like "nice work, interesting points, though I miss a,b" and reviewer 2 is like "I thought this would be good but it's meh, you're too far from this journal's standard and why would this be novel cuz don't see it." ? @phdlife @academicchatter

Oh yeah. I have a 10k word count limit, already at 9993.

@Marrekoo @phdlife @academicchatter This is a fairly standard situation, and the journal editor should be your friend in this process. No need to do everything the reviewers suggest, but you will need to respond to everything (even if just to say why you didn't incorporate certain suggestions). Overall, though, a very good first set of peer reviews!

@histodons @academicchatter This appears to be a tougher question to answer than I suspected... I had a quick look at Connected Papers this morning but found it limited.

By contrast, when it works, the visualisation on Research Rabbit is brilliant. Great potential to cut significant amounts of time. But it would be very useful to know what databases each of these engines pulls from. There are huge gaps for HSS scholars on many of the metrics-generating databases.
