I read Girl, Woman, Other, by Bernardine Evaristo (2019).

The novel is in free verse; I wasn't sure how reading it would go for me. Result: fantastic. It did not take long at all to appreciate, and then start thinking, in that style!

@bookstodon I was aware of this book because it won the Booker Prize in 2019, and there was a controversy. The rules of the Booker state there is only one winner (though there are short- and long-lists), and the panel awarded two -- the Margaret Atwood as well. Bernardine Evaristo is the first Black woman to win. A summary of the issues in the article below --

I'm reading Song of the Turtle: American Indian Literature 1974-1994 , an anthology of short stories edited by Paula Gunn Allen. I'm finding that every story is a gem and am really enjoying the collection.

The book seems to be out of print. I am borrowing mine from the library and I also have found used copies for sale.
