Change your name to something obviously fake. Years back I had my name as something that wasn’t my actual name, they asked me for my ID to verify my identity. Well, I sent them some gross pictures I conjured up from the internet and uploaded those instead of my ID and it didn’t take long for them to just completely deactivate it.

Well yea, if you buy any digital game anywhere but GoG, I don’t know any others that have policies like theirs, you’re basically just renting it, you dont buy the game you just buy the license. GoG has a system set up to where you actually own the game, and if they went out of business tomorrow, you could still play your games fine.

Let’s say you happen to buy a game or dlc off of a second-hand site and redeem it on steam, origin, or whatever launcher. You use it, and it works, and you play for a while, no problem. Well, if that key you bought is flagged for whatever reason, and the publishers of said game can decide to revoke the license you bought, and that’s a wrap. Because that’s all you’re buying, even straight from steam or anywhere else - just a license. I used the second-hand website as an example because it does happen there. I haven’t really heard anything happening on legit purchases straight from a vendor, but the legal wording is all there, and what I described is possible.

All these psychopaths saying kill the cat or catch it and relocate it are fucking deranged. Talk to the owners if you know who it is… firstly, I’m sure they would at least be receptive to the problem and if they’re not then maybe look into legal outlets. If you’ve gone out of your way to post on lemmy you’re technically savvy enough to look up local laws. people have also posted actual remediation methods that aren’t terrible and could actually improve your lawn in some scenarios as well so maybe try those out if you’re into them.

I’m positive that no one wants to lose a pet in any capacity. Just some simple communication with the owners could solve this, and if not, there are other options.

The last time games were increased in price I was in grade school, 50 to 60, a 10 dollar increase. I wrote a letter to nintendo actually and got a response basically saying costs were up in the nicest way you could to a child.

That was well over 15 years ago, so the extra 10 they tacked on was honestly coming eventually. Everything else in life is getting expensive so of course it was only a matter of time until it reached this part of our lives, its really basic economics.

A comparison to keep in mind is also that we were still buying physical copies of games when the last increase happened, now we are strictly digital for a large majority of purchases while this next increase has happened.

But luckily this increase in price seems to be a trend only taken on by AAA companies, which are hit and miss in their titles lately imo, so most will be on sale in a year and you won’t ever have to pay 70 unless you are really into that title. Most indie companies are pricing their games at around 30-40 dollars right out of the gate and honestly have more of the spirit of what video games should be.

I don’t have an issue with the pricing I was just explaining why I think the pricing isn’t an issue (didn’t really state this clearly) strictly due to economic pressures and giving just a little bit of background as to why. Because honestly like you said, games historically have been more expensive in the past. And they have lightned up on prices in the past two decades only to gradually increase them with tons of time in between for whatever reason they site.

Just another thought here but I honestly think the micro transaction economy we’ve gotten in games the past few years probably stifled the price increase just a little longer.

He’s been in the peace corps, and has worked for the state with helping children that are affected by terrible situations as well as hqving done many other generally good things though his life. I only say this because of the context of this discussion which isn’t in the best of light which does not reflect his over all character at all.

Never really liked titles from Activision or ubisoft to begin with and thats just my opinion, just enjoyed the odd blizzard game and that’s been a rocky road as of late. Hey all, so about 10ish years ago I used to torrent a few things, nothing heavy like games or programs but just TV shows and what not. I got burned pretty bad, had my computer compromised and files encrypted. I was able to salvage most of my rig but a lot of pictures and files were lost to the ether. I want to get back into this but understandably I’m pretty concerned about it. Any tips on getting safely back into sailing the seas?
