That’s the same as saying that Microsoft doesn’t make anyone hostage with MS Office, yet they do.

You shouldn’t be hostage to a platform. Before Docker we didn’t have those kinds of issues APT repositories are easy to mirror and they’re not run by for profit companies.

Not a storage protocol over the network, but yes :P

The problem with those projects like Runtipi is the same you’ve with Docker - you’ll be hostage to yet another platform that can fuck you up at any moment without notice… like Docker hub did.

That’s was some fanboy of those overly complex but allegedly simple new-age bullshit website compilers (Hugo) where you place a bunch of markdown files in a folder, install 200MB of dependencies to compile the thing into HTML that you can then deploy via a closed solution such as GitHub actions to a closed ecosystem like Cloudflare. The same guy who’ll discover in a few years they won’t be able to “compile” their blogs anymore because some dependency is broken, their SEO is trash, Cloudflare is no longer free, GitHub actions require a subscription etc… you know, our run-of-the-mill piece of shit developer from 2023 so up their asses who don’t understand shit about what their doing and that can’t even be bothered with a simple drag-and-drop to a FTP.

Yes +1 for Wordpress, you can even make your own simple theme if you would like in no time.

Kind of… but you’re directly accessing the hard drive like iSCSI does. Way less latency, no high (and slow) protocols like SMB are used.

NVMe/TCP is an extension of the NVMe base specification that defines the binding of the NVMe protocol to message-based fabrics using TCP. The rules for mapping NVMe queues, creation of NVMe-oF capsules, and the methods used to deliver the capsules over the TCP fabric are described in the NVMe/TCP Transport Specification. By binding the NVMe protocol to TCP, NVMe/TCP enables the efficient end-to-end transfer of commands and data between NVMe-oF hosts and NVMe-oF controller devices by any standard Ethernet-based TCP/IP networks. Large-scale data centers can use their existing Ethernet-based network infrastructure with multilayered switch topologies and traditional network adapters

Yeah I guess NASA, Lockheed Martin and Airbus all use analytics for testing instead of actual testing. You seem to be very unware of the current corporate trend of replacing in-house testing by analytics as a cost cutting strategy.

Surface devices: seem to work pretty well, although I would prefer not to support Microsoft

I was suggesting you would get one of those second hand. There are good deals and they indeed work and are light. Personally I would love to see Linux on the iPad but that’s not going to happen. But we’ve to admit, that would’ve been the perfect Linux tablet because it is very light.

Not “booted”, you won’t be booting your OS. It’s just an option on the boot menu that launches a small program that does the magic and nothing else.

@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

No, this has nothing to do with your motherboard. Once you reach the boot menu you’ll be able to pick your OS and alternatively systemd-storagetm. If you chose the the latter then your disks will be available to other machines over NVME-TCP. Just like Apple.

Telemetry is important to making a good product. The developer needs to know about crashes and what causes them

Telemetry is the new age bullshit excuse and alternative to proper in-house software testing and money cuts. Why hire testers and have public testing programs if you can just deploy to the end users, let it break and then collect logs. You’ll get tons of PII as a bonus :)
