TCB13 , to linux in Running NixOS from any Linux Distro in systemd-nspawn Containers
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

LXC is way more resource intensive and actually systemd had containers for a very long time… not to forget that if you use those you don’t need to install one more thing :)

I tired bare metal and docker, it’s shit and I’m not the only one complaining so I’ll assume you’ve been lucky so far. Either way you can’t deny that the UI is a piece of crap and my “personal favorite” is the webmail UI that can’t even WYSIWYG properly.

That’s normal

Ahaha. The current state of software development and what people accept as normal is just mind-boggling. And no, it’s not “normal” nor “ok”, it slows down things and the UI sometimes crashes with more data.

TCB13 , to technology in Microsoft is unbundling Teams from Office in Europe to address regulator concerns
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

They seem to have failed to address one major issue. You can’t have teams working with a domain and a non Office 365 email service, that’s a bummer and the only way to get around it is to use funky addresses on teams like [email protected]. This is simply an anti-competitive practice from Microsoft to force companies into Office 365 E-mail. There’s no technical reason for this.

That’s an example, for instance the CPU temps depend on another os those files that is written by the armbianmonitor service… and I don’t want to run that service on a generic machine. In the past I modified the script to read temps from lm-sensors but that doesn’t seem to be very portable as both Intel and AMD have multiple variations on way they report the temps.

This is why I’m mostly looking for an alternative.

Nextcloud will be slow. To be realistic is it always slow in all hardware.

Yes… but this armbian thing has too many dependencies I wouln’t want to run the armbianmonitor service just to power this up.

Yes, that script depends on /usr/lib/armbian/armbian-allwinner-battery that, in turn, depends on the armbianmonitor service. :(

Grabbing armbian-allwinner-battery doesn’t help as it depends of stuff like /etc/armbianmonitor/datasources/ambienttemp

I managed to mount the image and extract the files, however it still fails on a regular Debian box, x86 as a few tools seem to be missing:
