It’s not just that software and internet has been so lucrative, it’s also that there are fringe benefits of being a white collar software worker versus a blue collar factory worker. The biggest is absolutely that the blue collar work will fucking ruin your body over time. All my blue collar friends have a plethora of health problems related to doing manual labor their whole lives. Injuries that will never really heal and leave them in chronic pain until they die. None of my white collar working friends in the software sector have any health problems similar to that which were triggered by their job. A few of them have some serious health issues, but nothing caused by the work they did.

Millennials and Gen Z are some of the most educated generations in history, and we’re surprised they’ve recognized this and made the choice to not suffer physically in their old age?

Why should they be expected to have the manpower to answer every single one?

Because they are expected to consider the opinions of their constituents, and as an elected representative and they are supposed to represent our interests, not theirs.

To be able to functionally listen to your constituents, yes, you need the staff to be able to do it.

You think that listening to and transcribing voicemails somehow takes less time than taking a call? Pro-tip, they take about the same amount of time.

I mean, with that attitude, why have any staff at all? Just let it all go to voicemail and never read any of those thousands of emails from constituents! Fuck 'em! Fuck representative democracy, amirite?

I feel like I’ve been here before.

When I was young there was an exciting, blockbuster weight loss drug and all the benefits of it were all over the news.

Then, eventually, all the downsides were revealed and it was eventually banned from the market. (fen phen)

There is not enough research and attention being paid attention to the mental health side effects of these drugs, as well as other knock-on effects.

As well as the fact that many people cannot and will not be able to afford these drugs, meaning they will largely go to the well-to-do, further entrenching mental health issues with the poor having further body image issues as the well-to-do start thinning out. There’s also the issue that since these were originally diabetes drug that their popularity as weight loss drugs will make them difficult to access for diabetes patients.

Soon, like so many things, being a healthy weight will literally only be affordable to a certain class of people, and that does have knock-on societal mental health effects. (At least in the US.)

But yeah, let’s keep cheering on new drugs that haven’t been on the market long enough for long-term testing and that originally was developed for people with diabetes.

I don’t understand why it’s not considered harassment of an elected official when they are doing that.

Calling a few times, sure no big deal, but a thousand times for each person? That’s fully in the territory of harassment and abuse.

You shouldn’t be rewarded for that behavior by fucking giving in to it.

Especially when rewarding them is saying “Okay, because you harassed us so much we’ve decided your opinion matters and we’ll actually do something about this issue.”
