I just discovered the superb Gladys Mitchell, a country house detective novelist from the same stable as Agatha Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers. Though probably less well-known. 'Speedy Death' is her first novel

I'm only a few pages in but already hooked. It's murder mystery with a decidedly Wodehousian tone of voice and a similar cast of vapid wastrels as characters. Her sleuth is the formidable Mrs Bradley. The prose breathes pure 1920s air.

Hey , have you come across any books with misleading and / or bad blurbs? Please share!
I just finished Wole Soyinka's "Chronicles from the Land of the Happiest People on Earth" and.. that book has a misleading blurb with a big spoiler. Wish I hadn't read the blurb. (Good book, though. More on that later.)

Yes, plenty but I can't remember what books now. I make it a rule to never read the blurb just before starting the book, so often it's a complete giveaway.
