@axnxcamr @dweebish @pathfinder @Moondancer @actuallyautistic When I was in secondary school (in the late 70s/early 80s) the concept of boundaries wasn't in the mainstream at least where I lived. It literally wasn't a thing I understood until more than a decade later. Value was placed on being strong in the face of bullying. Showing emotion or that it had any effect meant more bullying.

Bullying was just part of life that some kids had to deal with. Authorities were aware of it but only intervened in extreme situations believing that the child would be targeted more if adults stepped in. The one time a teacher stood up for me still makes me emotional when I think about it.

I don't think it would have made a difference then for the same reason I don't think it would now, either. I'm an odd duck and viewed as such. Some people are willing to put up with me to a point, but it's not a high priority. I don't see how having a disability descriptor changes that. If anything, it gives another reason to stear clear.
