Wow, $80. I haven’t looked into these devices since the first one, but I thought the point of them was to be very cheap. I do wonder what these new more powerful ones are capable of. Perhaps the performance justifies the price.

I don’t think there is a better tool for web automation. Selenium is pretty much the industry standard. However, you can use Selenium across a wide variety of languages and browsers.

People need to urgently stop using Lemmy world so they no longer have any power to abuse.

IzzyData ,

At no point have I been angry about something here. This is about not putting all your eggs into one Lemmy basket. Especially one with inadequate people running it. The goal of Lemmy is decentralization, not centralization.

A survey on user experience in fediverse (Lemmy, Mastodon, etc.) (cryptpad.fr)

I would greatly appreciate if anyone could participate in the survey I created for my research about fediverse . it won’t take much time and it is hosted on privacy friendly service, cryptpad . all responses are anonymized. You don’t have to answer all questions. Fill as much you can and submit when you had enough....

Well they banned me for saying I don’t like ads and called it harassment. They have no idea what they are doing and are not fit to be admins of anything.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

Every comment is still available to read at the moment. This doesn’t seem like the place for a long and elaborate recap. That’s pretty much what it boils down to though. The irony is that several people harassed me and they are completely fine with that because it supports their biased opinion. If you look through their comment history they are very supportive of this particular piece of software. So anything against this is bad and must be banned. It likely wouldn’t even matter what it is. They just ban first and justify it later and make up some nonsense such as “harassment”.

The double irony is that they are going to end up harming lemmy.world and possibly do irreparable damage to the lemmyverse long term and then their friend will no longer be able to profit much from ads.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

I don’t think BlueSky has ads. At least not yet. The dispute is mainly around the mobile Lemmy app Sync. Which is a mobile UI for lemmy that inserts ads into Lemmy where there previously were none.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

This is exactly what I experienced when I was part of their top moderator and ban discussion discord channels. They would regularly ban people for little to no reason and then laugh about it and then realize they need to come up with reasons after the fact. This is also how they deal with defederation. They had defederated an instance more than once prior to having any concrete reasons to do so. They operate on gut feeling and disregard their own rules and ToS on the regular.

Not even Reddit is so unprofessional.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

I’ve definitely never reported anyone related to this. They came to a FOSS community and then got upset when people criticize the propritizing of FOSS software. They should change the rules to not allow any criticize of the ad business model instead of banning people for made up reasons. 🤷

Which is baffling. I was only ever kind to him. He left because he said he was sick in the hospital and wouldn’t have time to help. I said ok thank you for your time and get well soon. He made up something about me saying something about COVID. Which makes no sense. Nowhere in Lemmy or discord did I ever mention COVID. I can’t understand his agenda for lying here. Maybe he just also wants to be a power mod to abuse it so he needs to brown nose the admins

IzzyData , (edited )
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

He left because he was sick and said he was going to be in the hospital and wouldn’t have time. That is what he told me. That is a pretty gross thing to joke about if he is lying. We had little to know interaction outside of discussing what posts to make for what shows and only over a few days.

Feel free to ask them to provide every single private or public discord message I’ve ever made to them. I’m sure they would likely try to hide it as it would only make them look foolish at best and terrible at worse. They are not good people.

You can believe whatever it is you need to believe, but there is no way for you to convince me that I myself have done wrong when I know for a fact I have not.

It should be telling that they are the ones that try to hide things.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

I shouldn’t be surprised that the primary motivating factor of administrators and power mods is to have and abuse power of users. Lemmy just feels like a failed experiment at this point.

The only thing left here is unoriginal memes. Which can be amusing, but I don’t think it is enough for Lemmy to survive on long term.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

Maybe they should try doing that then instead of changing things for no reason that aren’t broken.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

I think some of the web frameworks people use are converting the desktop site into a mobile layout by applying additional CSS and layers ontop of it that makes it more inefficient.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

I like the idea of being able to following a hashtag on mastodon and have it show up in my home feed. Maybe I am just doing it wrong on BlueSky, but I couldn’t figure it out. There was something with lists, but it wasn’t working like I expected.

Comment count shows many comment, yet i see just few Hungarian

Hi! I see the indicators how comments are there for posts, but if i want to view them, i see only few, or none at all, but an infite loading indicator. I know i have to open comment threads, but either way, the indicator shows there should be waaay more comments than i see. Why is that? Im using Connect client, but also same if...

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

Because you can’t see this comment most likely. Lemmy world admins ban a lot of people and defederate a lot of instances and communities.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

There is probably no good answer or at least no definitive answer as of course instance admins can do whatever they want and clearly do. They usually have no founding principles or strict guidelines in which they adhere.

In my opinion I’d prefer people to enact moderation as little as possible. There should be a set of rules outlined for the community and the only time a moderator should take some moderation action is if one of those rules is broken. Of course there are always going to be things that are in grey areas, but I believe it makes more sense to have as few false positive actions taken as possible. If this results in some undesirable comments or posts to remain active then so be it. That is what the point system is for after all.

If the rules are determined to be inadequate then they should be updated and everyone should be informed so that everyone can make personal decision about whether to continue participation or not.

It wouldn’t be so bad if it were only a 20x difference. It is more like a 5000x difference. 🥲

Paying to remove ads is part of the ad business model. Upset your customer enough until they give you money to make it stop. Once you pay to remove the ads you have rewarded them for implementing ads which lets them know that implementing ads was a great way at making money.

So YouTube premium is not another model. It is the same model. Another model is paying for a service that never had ads at all such as NebulaTV or CuriosityStream.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

Somehow? Paying to remove ads is rewarding ads thus causing more ads in the world. It’s not mysterious at all.

There are plenty of ways to not make it an all or nothing service, but that is at least the most straight forward. You could potentially give some of it away and then have to pay for the rest. Or have some stuff for free and more premium content is paid for. Or perhaps based on bandwidth with video quality / resolution.

Anything that is not ads is going to be an improvement.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

That’s a fine opinion, but I happen to disagree.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

That is a peculiar problem I have not seen or heard f before. It doesn’t sound like it is completely freezing if it keeps letting you play the game. Just windows behind the game is freezing?

Do you play in fullscreen mode where it takes complete control over the graphics output of your monitor? I wonder if there is some driver bug that is not properly relinquishing control of the monitor to your OS when you minimize the game. If possible I’d try playing in either windowed fullscreen mode or just windowed mode next time as a test.

Also it is always worth updating your graphics drivers too.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

Agreed. I already don’t trust car automation. No way I’m going to add a 3rd dimension to the list of possible failures.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

It is at least a different problem, but adding in the element that any failure is a fatal one it just isn’t enough that there are less obstacles in the way.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

How long until someone adds a lemmy watermark onto this?

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

It appears that there will be no ads and the only monetization is for advanced features. Assuming that actually is true that is a respectable way to monetize something.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

At least for normal non-tech oriented people it is a Twitter without Elon Musk. Which I suppose is an improvement despite it still being Jack Dorsey.

I think it will be important to see how it is potentially monetized. If they can find some way to stay alive without going down the enshitification rabbit hole like Twitter then that would also be an improvement in my opinion.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

At least personally I can just leave. It’s interesting that so many people get so entrenched in a service that they can’t go without it.

What is a laser image transmission? Is the laser an image that is transmitting data within that image or is it a laser that is transmitting data in the form of images? 😐

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

I wonder if they mean optical instead of image here. It would make a lot of sense if that were the case.

Lemmy.world deleting posts with archive links and posts questioning the decision.

Lemmy.world has somehow decided to become to extreme defenders of “copyright” and decided they will now delete posts that contain archive links in an absurd move that not even corporate websites like Reddit do. Archive links provide a service to provide access to an article long after it is deleted or changed....

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

I never really used Reddit so I don’t know, but it wouldn’t surprise me that power over users is one of the primarily motivators of admins and power mods.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

This is the same as their moderation style. They ban first and justify it later.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

You are describing federation though which is what Lemmy is. If you want a centralized website this is not that.

IzzyData ,
@IzzyData@lemmy.ml avatar

So did Gmail, but it was a different time without any good competition.
