Got an email from a student that I am 99% certain they wrote using ChatGPT asking for help with their major project. (In addition to sounding like AI, there are formatting clues that suggest it was copy-pasted.) The only non-AI part is where they describe project specifics—in bullet points. So they lack enough confidence in their own writing to even complete a few sentences, but have voluntarily chosen to do a major (not required for degree) research project. @academicchatter

@abshlimon @academicchatter and just a thought... could the student be dyslexic and helping himself by letting chatgpt make a standard mail, filling it with the specifics in the bullits.
That this needs to be adressed is a sure thing. Maybe ask: how are you going to approach the writing and do you need any help? Address that you know of AI tools that can write texts, but that it's the challenge and learning curve to write papers without it?
