New Sentinel nuclear warhead program is 81% over budget. But Pentagon says it must go forward (apnews.com)

WASHINGTON (AP) — The new Sentinel nuclear warhead program is 81% over budget and is now estimated to cost nearly $141 billion, but the Pentagon is moving forward with the program, saying that given the threats from China and Russia it does not have a choice....

but the Pentagon is moving forward with the program, saying that given the threats from China and Russia it does not have a choice.

So fucking stupid. As if Russia or China would nuke the U.S. if the U.S. stopped making more nuclear weapons. Putin isn’t that crazy and neither is Xi.

I always thought it would be a fun short story, probably just a dialogue between two people, where someone convinces the dean of a European art school that this young kid who’s applying isn’t great yet, but he shows promise and could be molded into a great artist and at the end, it turns out it’s a time traveler and the kid is Hitler.

Columbia University suspends three deans for 'antisemitism' in private text messages (www.middleeasteye.net)

The three deans include Cristen Kromm, the former dean of undergraduate student life; Matthew Patashnick, the former associate dean for student and family support; and Susan Chang-Kim, the former vice dean and chief administrative officer....

I’ve been wondering whether or not Nigel Farage was a real person for a long time. This would explain a few things. Like his total lack of humanity.

There aren’t enough role models teaching them that you can be a man without being toxic to women.

Tesla investors to urge judge to reject record $7 bln legal fee in Musk pay case (www.reuters.com)

Tesla shareholders will appear in court on Monday to argue that an unprecedented request for more than $7 billion in attorneys’ fees to be paid by the company is “outlandish,” the latest twist in a legal showdown over Musk’s $56 billion pay package....

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

So how much are they paying the lawyers to dispute these fees?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

$56 billion to Elon is good because, based on his performance so far, he’s the smartest man in the world who will make the best cars and make Tesla the most important corporation on the planet.

Have those lawyers ever come up with something genius like the Cybertruck? I rest my case.

So much kerfuffle over such a non-scandal. Giving interviewers questions is S.O.P. for media people in a campaign. If Trump’s people aren’t doing it too, the only reason is because Trump never answers questions anyway.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t know what universe you live in, but it isn’t ours.

I mean just do a search for “Trump doesn’t answer questions” and you can come up with tons of results from legitimate publications.

Some examples:

apnews.com/…/trump-capitol-riot-pardon-abortion-p…

www.cnn.com/2020/10/09/politics/…/index.html

There’s more than one article about how difficult it is to interview Trump:

theweek.com/…/so-how-do-you-interview-donald-trum…

theguardian.com/…/donald-trump-media-interviews-p…

The guy won’t even answer when he’s asked if he’ll accept the election results whether or not he wins: www.bbc.com/news/articles/c51y85zwj1xo

Also, do tell us how you know when Biden is given a pre-selected question or is reading off of cue cards.

And is reading from cue cards different from Trump using a teleprompter? Remember when he complained how it doesn’t work so he can’t read from a script? apnews.com/…/donald-trump-nevada-rally-heat-las-v…

Dark messengers of satanism

Fucking Guardian… either falling for stupid propaganda or using scare words. Shameful either way.

The Satanic Temple’s Seven Fundamental Tenets:

I. One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.

II. The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

III. One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

IV. The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one’s own.

V. Beliefs should conform to one’s best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one’s beliefs.

VI. People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one’s best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.

VII. Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

thesatanictemple.com/…/there-are-seven-fundamenta…

What sort of “dark messengers” preach compassion and justice?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Considering Satan is a fiction, I’d say Satan can be whatever you want him to be. It doesn’t help that the Bible doesn’t actually explain what happened to cast Satan into Hell other than there being a war in Heaven. Pretty much all we get is Revelation 12:7-10.

7 Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. 9 The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

Also, there’s Isaiah 45:7

I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.

So if God creates evil, what does Satan even do? Carry out his work for him? That seems to be what Twain thought when he wrote Letters from Earth. Seems as good a source as any.

I read it. Burying the lede doesn’t excuse the beginning.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

If that was the intent, they shouldn’t have intended it that way. Because people won’t take it that way.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Lots of people will take it seriously and they will not read to the end where it is explained. In fact, what many of them will see is that part in a little preview blurb and get worked up about it.

None of my neighbors work at Goodwill.

And you were the one who said you wanted an adult conversation. You’ve shown none of that.

Also, I’m disparaging the job for the same reason all the disabled people in the articles I pasted that you didn’t apparently read are complaining about them, so it’s pretty ironic that you’re claiming I’m the one who doesn’t care about the well being of the people who rely on those jobs… by saying they should be paid more.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I’m pretty sure I never said Goodwill shouldn’t hire people at all, so I have no idea where you’re getting that from.

I just am saying, much as the disabled people who work at Goodwill are saying, that they deserve to be paid more.

Why don’t you agree?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

You can call me by someone else’s name for some bizarre reason as much as you like, but it doesn’t change the fact that you keep arguing with someone who is saying that disabled people should be paid more at Goodwill, which disabled people also think.

Again, why don’t you?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Nothing you will say will change the fact that you are disagreeing with someone who thinks disabled people who work at Goodwill, much like those disabled people themselves, deserved to be paid more.

Why don’t you think they deserve to be paid more?

And yes, I’m not a champion. I’m a worthless excuse for a person. But that doesn’t change the fact that I think that disabled people at Goodwill deserve to be paid more.

And I still don’t get this Richard thing.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar
