I truly do not know what to think about this situation and I would love having your thoughts on this @academicchatter
One of my papers was accepted to be published in July (after the 2nd round of reviews, 1st round was minor modifications), announced on the website, I was asked whether I wanted to buy the pinted copy of the journal etc. My co-author and I were asked to do some modifications over a 1 week period. We were off at the time and asked for a delay that was accepted. (1/...)

@academicchatter we send the paper with the modifications requested and the editor-in-chief finally decided not to publish it. The ed-in-chief was leaving the journal and told us the paper would be dealt with by the new team that might decide to do a 3ed of reviews. The new team decided the paper needed a 3rd round of reviews with 2 new reviewers. And now they told us that after the 3rd round of reviews, we need to do major modifications and we will have another round after that. (2/)

@academicchatter my co-author and I are furious and we do not understand this change. We kindda feel like trapped.
We did not know the previous Ed-in-chief nor the new team (it's not a question of whether being liked or disliked by other colleagues).
What do you think of this situation ? Have you ever experienced this type of situation ?

@GeorgKrammer @mikagratzke @academicchatter thanks for sharing your thoughts on that ! That's what I would want to do but my co-author announced the publication to her employer and she needed it to get promoted and can't walk away 😔
And I hate the fact that the the article being revoked casts doubts on our paper :((

@TEG @academicchatter
Thanks for sharing your thoughts ! We thought of that option too (even though it's not an option that our egos like haha) but in this case why was it accepted in the first place ?
The changes asked are not that major but they contradict some of the changes asked for and even made by the previous ed-in-chief. I honestly do not feel like they improve the paper/literature.

@benfell @TEG @academicchatter I agree with you, I am so furious about the process (not to mention how the previous Ed-in-Chief was talking to us by emails....) I think I'll never submit in this journal again !

@TEG @academicchatter yep we are trying to convince ourselves that it's the last changes....

@StephanieMoore @TEG @academicchatter oh really ? I do not think you'd know the journal.

@jni @GeorgKrammer @mikagratzke @academicchatter thanks a lot for your kind words ! Unfortunately she can't... and yes I warn my friends and colleagues now about this journal !

@StephanieMoore @TEG @academicchatter thanks for the piece of advice !!

@StephanieMoore @TEG @academicchatter I just checked who the pulisher was.. turns out the former ed-in-chief is on the board of the publisher... we are definitely screwed.

Do we have a hashtag for academic advice? Mine today is:

Keep in mind that while it’s nice to write narratively, a dissertation is fundamentally a “prove yourself” exercise and readers (committee) want to see you demonstrating knowledge of a body of secondary literature and then placing your study within it. In other words, you’ll need to be a bit heavyhanded with wielding literature to satisfy the genre requirement.

@inquiline @academicchatter exactly. At some point a friend of mine told me "in the end, a phd thesis is an exercise and you need to show that you can do it.". It was a very helpful sentence that I kept reminding myself when I was struggling with it.
