Who else is going to the American Library Association Annual Conference this weekend? We are literally packing our bags right now to head to San Diego!

Please come say hello to us at Booth 656 in The Library Marketplace to learn about teaching with film, using our films and discussion guides for library events, and get free film resources. Like our film-book pairing ideas.

Our Executive Director Jen Fischer and our Lead Instructional Designer Amy Bowers would love to meet you and answer your questions.

Plus we have some really cool stuff to give away.

Let us know if you'll be there, too!

Boy, howdy, was tonight's online event with Rep Adam Kinzinger and Chicago journalist Steve Edwards ever a great hour of conversation! Hope you were able to join in. It was recorded - we'll share out the link if we are able to. So good!

Go, go, Illinois public libraries, go! What a phenomenal group of partners.

I started a thing! a new ritual? a project?

I borrow a lot of books from the library after placing a hold, so even though I pick them up at my home library, they’re originally from other branch libraries in the @sfpl system.

so going forward, I’m going to start returning them to their branch libraries of origin until I’ve visited all the different locations.

today: returning Hernán Díaz’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Trust to the Excelsior branch. It’s the best thing I’ve read this year.

I’ve definitely been to the Mission location but not this location: the historic building at 300 Bartlett is closed for renovation.

Instead, the library is operating out of a borrowed storefront around the corner on Valencia. After returning this book, the really excellent Time’s Mouth by Edun , I walked around. The library is tiny but charming. There’s a big collection of media offerings, and a laptop-lending machine. in the main room, book displays cater to the neighborhood’s Spanish-speaking population and English-language books focus topics relevant to the Spanish-speaking population of the Americas as well.

I'm (still!) working on my paper about Finnish public libraries and their architecture. There's an interesting recent development where the library is fused with other public services. In the Iso Omena mall in Espoo, Finland, the library now also serves as the waiting area for the local health centre. I'm not yet sure what to think about this. At least, this multiuse space could have been given some identity and character. @academicchatter @architecture
