64lbs of costly candle wax was allocated to the chapel for the feast of , a favourite of the , when light blazed in midwinter & candles were brought to be blessed.

She would have been familiar with this window depicting the Presentation of Christ in the Temple - very tall candles here!

After was assassinated in on 29 Dec 1170, reports of miraculous healing started to circulate within a week, and pilgrim numbers soared. The vibrant colours of the windows around his shrine may have seemed almost as wondrous to visitors as the they depict.
