So for those of you who love the story behind the story, about why writers wrote this or that, I've written this blog post about my second collection of stories, Where Rivers Go To Die, which is a finalist for the PKD Awards and longlisted for BSFA.

Books with playlists. 🎧🎶🎵

I read a book over the weekend called The Mixtape by Brittainy C. Cherry. It was an awesome book. There were a lot of song references, and I did a search to find that the songs had been put in a spotify playlist. I've always loved the idea of books that have playlists, and now I'm looking for books that do this. Any recommendations? I've also started listening to lo-fi music while reading and doing computer stuff. Any spotify playlist recommendations for music to read to would be awesome! @bookstodon @romancelandia

I bought some books today to put on my physical bookshelf. I know that probably sounds odd because I can't read printed books, but why not? Seems to be the thing to do these days. I got Icebreaker by Hannah Grace, and Red white and royal blue by Casey McQuiston. Fun fact. I really struggle to say Red White and Royal Blue. I get stuck on it every time. @bookstodon

"This is book about the dead, and the people who are left behind. It is also a personal story, written in my own voice, as a citizen of a nation I cannot recognize as my own. The thousands who died were killed with the permission of my people. I am writing this book because I refuse to offer mine." -- Patricia Evangelista in her book's Prologue

Going to DNF Breaking Twitter. The author comes across as a fanboy and I'm so not into reading about how idealistic and brilliant Musk is. :blobcatnauseated:

The latest Excessively Diveriting newsletter is out! In this issue I defend the often derided isFreemail=false&r=1ep55#Persuasion. (I can see the loss of subscribers with this declaration. )

You can read the post online (https://excessivelydiverting.substack.com/p/jane-auste-bronte-issue-2-persuasion?publication_id=2233006&post_id=140664313&isFreemail=false&r=1ep55) or subscribe to the newsletter (https://excessivelydiverting.substack.com/).

(I asked "Jane" who was better: Darcy or Bingley and the answer “she" gave was illuminating. :) )

So the good news continues as my book, Where Rivers Go To Die, makes it to the longlist for Best Collection, shortly after it became a finalist at the Philip K Dick Awards. Yay!

The BSFA this year is a very long list with lots of good books to discover and put on your reading list for 2024.

Been reading quite a lot this week. I've read the Lovin' the Coven series by Jacquelyn Faye. Looking for my next book to read, I've got a stack in my kindle app to choose from. @bookstodon

Interestingly, 2024 is seeing a very British trend for me. It's not a bad thing or a good thing. It just sort of happened that way. "Huh! How about that?" Of the 6 books I've touched in 2024, 4 of them have ties to the UK.

RN I'm almost done with The Keeper of Lost Things by Ruth Hogan (I'm picturing it as a Richard Curtis movie; Four Weddings and a Funeral even gets a reference) and just started Pulse by Julian Barnes. @bookstodon

Book cover of Pulse (Stories) by Julian Barnes (Man Booker Prize-winning author of The Sense of an Ending) "Vibrant... Full of life and voice... As Barnes fans know, love itself is a lifetime for this playful, erudite writer." -- San Francisco Chronicle Cover art shows an abstract painting of a tray with purple grapes, a sliced open cantaloupe, a lime, and a bottle of wine.

Just finished Nick Harkaway's superb, melancholy, violent private detective SF , Titanium Noir, which was on @tithenai's NYT best 10 books of 2023. Would absolutely recommend!

Brief review of "To the Ghosts Who Are Still Living" by Ami Weintraub

A poignant and powerful weaving of essays. The reader joins Weintraub on a deftly-crafted journey of encounter and loss that touches on the search for ancestors, on intergenerational and collective trauma, on identity, on survival, on that which has tried to be taken or erased, and on making meaning out of all of it. Heartfelt and heartrending, this short collection is definitely worth reading and holding and sharing with others.
